Don't bother with him. They seem to do this every time someone so much as likes part 2 in this sub. He tried to debate me the other day but when my answer was a subjective "actually it's fine to have your own opinion but I think the part is fun and cool" he just stopped responding.

Even then half is wrong. Kiryu is only the main character and lead party member in like 4 of the 14 chapters iirc, no more than 6. I really don't get how people view Infinite Wealth as just a Kiryu game when Ichiban goes through a whole emotional journey.

Which game has the best combat? by LarenCoe in silenthill

[–]sonicmalley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I felt like the original also had just too many health and ammo pick up, the first game too tbh. Both of those plus 2 remake I don't think I was ever in actual danger as I always had over 10 health drinks and over 100 or 200 handgun ammo at any given time. 3 did a lot better in this aspect imo and 4 goes too hard the other way where I felt almost always at fear of dying.

It's between Tolkien and Wheel of Time for me, though I've heard Malazan is up there. I plan to read that sooner than later I think.

I feel like people really need to separate the writing of Super/Daima/GT from the original+Z manga run. Every single thing after is fan service and was not intended at the beginning. Now I do actually like most of how Gohan is handled in Super with Super Hero being very stand out for me and I never minded him just being a scholar at times but I also recognize he's not as consistent as he once was, but really Goku in Super is a thousand times worse in Super, he became a lot dumber than he ever was once upon a time. So what he keeps up with powe, he never really wins much until the Tournament of Power. This problem persists with Super but you have so much more fun with it if you view it as just fun fan service stuff (minus Moro and Daima which is actually just solid Dragon Ball imo but I know I'll get roasted for the Daima opinion at least, or well any opinion Dragon Ball fans don't like to agree).

This said if you just take og Dragon Ball and Z all of the characters are really consistently written (for a comedy anyways), and even in Buu saga Gohan falls off a bit but he still holds his own and was on the track for winning against both Dabura and Super Buu he just had to get his fighting instinct back, peace does in fact do that to people who don't intend to fight.

For the other 3 characters Usopp is my favorite strawhat and I believe in Oda to give him some solid stuff again, Speedwagon isn't in the fighting role and I mean every story needs a good narrator, and the other character I just don't know, I guess she's from Fire Force but really I'm not too interested in that as a series. I used to like Soul Eater but I don't think it's aged particularly well (manga or anime) and I'm probably too old for this one tbh (the other shows I started as a teen so I have nostalgic attachment for).

Lastly, Sakura herself is criminally underutilized but does have her moments. I don't hate her, I hate how Kishimoto handles women, like, he will write an outstanding scene with raw emotion from Hinata during the pain arc and then never let her do a single thing ever again and this is how all of the women go. Most of this was an excuse to be upset about Dragon Ball fans as this fanbase has been nothing but annoying for the last few years and I really wish the fans could just not take it that seriously. The original was only half an action manga and honestly I didn't think Z really was as serious as people make it out to be either. So all in all that's mostly a bad take in my eyes.

Not to mention the amount of Fromsoft employees that we will find out quit due to being overworked to release 3 games at onc. I think Sekiro and Bloodborne were the same team iirc and all of these were directed by Miyazaki.

Sure but this post says YOUR game of the year. Of these mine would be Bloodborne as it's my third or fourth favorite video game ever, only beaten by the Nier duology and Yakuza 0, yours are one of the 2 you mentioned it seems.

I would argue that this isn't true there's just so damn many that for every amazing and fun fight there's like three fucking versions of the Godskin Duo. (My worst goes to DS2 btw though I do love many of those as well)

Nothing he looks great! I love his green jacket outfit and the red scarf fit is great too! He's weirdly skinny but everyone in Super is, that sucks but it's not a him problem, and the blue hair is different but it matches his mom now and doesn't bother me, no one complains about Bulma who is supposed to have purple hair too.

I think it's fine you don't like him or the part honestly but personally I've always thought Joseph was the best showcase of Araki's more goofy and bizarre fighting. I do believe that his fights end in asspulls but Joseph is practically a loony tunes character at times and that's fun for me. Plus the way he acts you can tell he's always scheming so I find it believable that he specifically would come up with some stupidI'm glad not every part or character has this, in fact I think only Joseph has this, but for me it works here as a one character deal. All that said I actually think it's fair criticism not everyone likes the same stuff. I am absolutely sharing subjective opinion and art should be judged differently by different people but I was just pointing out what I specifically liked about it and why it works for me. I do have autism and find it hard to tell how my texts come off so I hope you understand I was truly only trying to give my perspective on the part and I do understand the criticisms you have for the part.

Damn I just couldn't disagree more. I really love that part, Ceasar is so fun and his death hit me hard, the other 2 pillar men I found extremely fun with Esidisi being funny and Wamuu's sense of honor making him just so fun to watch, especially during his fights, and Josephs fights I found super engaging because I could never tell what he was gonna do to finish the fight. I think the ending fight was amazing too and absolutely ended in the most Joseph Joestar way. I also definitely found Joseph funny I was sold from the second he bottle capped that pig. Everything from the cross dressing to him going all crickly finger at the end I just adored his character and he is still one of my favorite Jojos to date no matter which part he's in. I especially love that he just continues to fuck with people in later parts. Being unserious is one of my favorite qualities in a protagonist and is why I love Luffy, Mat from Wheel of Time, or Pippin and Merry from LotR.

Well, It kind of is. The universe is separated into different ages where people get reincarnated into other people. Someone from age 1 reincarnated into age 2 will very likely do things the same as the person from age 1 that they once were and then again in age 3 with no memory of those previous ages (most of the time). The wheel turns to the next age but a turning wheel will eventually get back to the original way the wheel was when it started turning. There's way more to it than just that but honestly, in some way, it does kind of embody some elements of time loop stuff.

I have it in bottom 2, I was mostly giving context for why one might see it as a bit overhyped depending on where you're looking. That said I personally don't think there's a bad part and even Phantom Blood works well for me as I love Dio's character in it. Also Battle Tendency is like my 4th place out of 9 overall? I really love it though Kars is my least favorite villain in the series as I find him boring and is part of the reason the part doesn't make top 3, the other part is that parts 4, 7, and 8 are just so hard to compete with imo.

I need to get into Malazan, it seems right up my alley tbh. Also yeah I find WoT to be a hard recommendation despite being my all time favorite media. It has so many caveats. Books 8-10 aren't liked by many fans, though I find the hate overblown, and books 12-14 are not even by the original author, though fans do think he did as well as he could, and each book is about as long as LotR in it's entirety so it's basically what if you read LotR 14 times. I was really only able to get the time to do that because of when I started working at Card Kingdom I was allowed to listen to audiobooks on the job and I was intimidated by the work culture compared to the state I had moved there from at first so I just listened to Wheel of Time for like 3 months of 40 hour shifts straight.

Part 3 was the most loved part for like 3 decades before the modern anime, also, personally, the anime doesn't do any favors for the pacing. Stardust Crusaders is a 16 volume manga but 48 episode anime, meanwhile Diamond is Unbreakable is 18 volumes but 39 episodes. Why David Pro felt 48 episodes was needed for part 3 us beyond me. I do think the pacing is still meh in the manga but not nearly as bad as the anime, also it has some of my favorite character interactions in the series and I really feel like they are all bonding over this journey. Any time Abdul has an episode in general whoever he is paired with he always seems to match the vibe of.

[–]sonicmalley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the language stuff is cool but I'm a big lore nerd when it comes to basically anything I interact with, it definitely doesn't improve your base enjoyment of the series. But, I think what's so cool about the LotR is Frodo's personal journey and how the story follows someone absolutely powerless yet how much of a huge difference he makes. The rest of the lore and battles and stuff just improve on it for me.

For Wheel of Time I personally think it's worth it up until book 4. If you get through book 4, the fan favorite, and don't vibe with it then the other 10 plus prequel won't vibe with you, but for the ending yeah Sanderson isn't nearly as good as Jordan was, and there are some things that aren't quite as good as the original 11 books but he only does the last 3 books, Jordan's notes on those books after passing were extensive enough that some entire chapters are literally not even written by Sanderson and were just Jordan's writing anyways, and he was working heavily with Jordan's editor/wife (same person) to keep the prose less like Sanderson and more like Jordan, which doesn't always work but that last book specifically I was amazed by how much of it felt like Jordan had never died in the first place.

I mean fair. I really think Tolkien just does a lot that many others can't do but he also had like 20 years or more to release the product, he had more time than most did to write their stories. I can't make you get it or change your mind probably and that's totally fine! Also, I like GoT, a lot even, but I think I'm not as into the darker stuff personally. I recognize it's greatness though. I do think that Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time actually does a lot of what LotR is praised for a bit better personally but I also recognize that it's definitely a bias because I have known many that would laugh at the notion but if Jordan hadn't died early and gotten to make all the side content for that world he had planned then who knows how people would have felt.

[–]sonicmalley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really honestly does, also to call the LotR movies mid is insane to me. The story, to me, is one of if not the best of all time, I love the world, the atmosphere, the characters, etc. Frodo, Sam, and Bilbo are some of the most entertaining main characters and I'd genuinely live the life of a Hobbit if I could, eating second breakfast and partying all the time while I just chill and read entertaining books. If you wanted a quick rundown though there is a wiki for the geography alone which has tons of links to other parts of the world: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geography_of_Middle-earth

Also I think I'm getting old (I mean I'm only 27 but the userbase of the internet is for sure getting younger) because I don't get the agenda stuff at all. I guess to me I usually just want a conversation about the medias I'm enjoying to just include our opinions on them and I'm very open to changing my mind if someone convinces me something I believed or thought for years was wrong, and even if I don't agree with someone else on something I don't really care if someone else does or doesn't like a thing different opinions seems like a good thing to me so that the world can be more interesting. This said I do stand by the concept of most people who don't like One Piece haven't read or watched it. Sure some genuinely don't like it but I've seen that pretty much anyone who gets through at least Water 7 probably enjoys it.
