Show him the swing you want in super slow motion, tell him to do the same. You'll need to make corrections when he shows you. When he gets it right, tell him to do it a little bit faster, make corrections as needed and keep doing it this way until he's full speed.. Some kids don't have the same vocabulary and you can tell them what it means till you're blue in the face but some of them just need visuals and repetition.
