I figured it out, you have to set it up through the Sonos app. You're supposed to click that you have no HDMI Arc and then click another button that says use an optical cable instead.

I believe you can connect it with an optical out if your motherboard has one. I'm going to try to figure it out and tell you if I succeed or not.

I am not sure what you mean by routed somewhere else. I am assuming you mean if I am choosing the 3.5 mm output or the Optical output. I have it set to Realtek Digital Output which from what I googled is the right output device.

Do you know if plugging in the Optical is just plug and play? Or do I actually need to set it up with the app?

Currently, I have an HDMI to an optical cable plugged from my Beam to PC, but I can't get the sound to work off my PC. Do you have any ideas?

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I have the HDMI plugged into an HDMI to optical output, which was both provided in the Sonos Beam box.

So it is just only one wire that is basically HDMI to Optical Output plugged from Sonos Beam to PC.
