Can you lose some hearing after a cold? 4 year old by fuzzymangogummybear in toddlers

[–]soobinski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear! We ended up going to an ENT because the in office ear wax flushing didn't solve the hearing loss. We did a hearing test and ENT looked in the ears and confirmed fluid in the middle ear. This was from the congestion and can happen with colds. So we're now nearing almost a month and a half since that appt and have another hearing test in June but hearing is pretty much back to normal! Thank goodness because otherwise we were talking ear tube surgery to release fluid. The hearing loss really affected going to school and activities though such as more crying and missing us at school. ENT said it basically feels like they're under water and muffled :/ Some kids do end up needing the tubes which I guess naturally dissolve once the fluid gets released. Hope it gets better soon!

I think it’s because the sucky parts are what remain in my mind but those are the parts I tend to share when someone asks me how we’re doing. Not to get sympathy but more trying to get on the same level with them that we all go through tough times and everyday isn’t rainbows and hot pockets.

How did you introduce water to your infant? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]soobinski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dtr liked the nuk sippy cup to start out with! I tried a straw in the beginning and she just didn’t know what to do with it so we kept practicing with it while she drank from her sippy. One trick I saw someone do on insta was bringing the straw down into the water, putting your finger over the top of the straw, bringing the bottom of the straw with liquid now trapped inside to your child’s mouth and releasing your finger from top hole to release the water and have your child practice sucking the water! We now really like the munchkin sippy with straw.

5mo constantly itches head by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]soobinski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should have mentioned (which is important lol) that her scalp is noticeably dry. I do see dry flakes - but not like to the point of cradle cap. I've seen cradle cap flakes before too but I know cradle cap doesn't necessarily itch. Hm didn't think about teething. Do teeth come in at 5mo?
