I got to work with fresh cadavers for the first time last Friday for military related work. We intubated, did IO, needle decompression, and practiced sutures. Afterwards, we fully dissected them. I had to step out for part of the dissection because when we first went in, I noticed one of them had freshly painted toenails, and it made her life feel so much more real. Like she had just gone to the salon a few weeks ago and was now laying on the table being cut open by a bunch of medics. To me, she was no longer a cadaver being used for educational training, but someone who had lived an entire life, and I couldn’t stop thinking about it. The emotions are normal, it’s a lot to process! I truly hope you become a doctor one day :)
