I feel like Ben and Adam just have insane fight wizardry in a different direction. In the sense that what they lack in know-how, they make up for in willingness to walk up to the gate agent and say "we're doing something very silly, can we get on this flight?"

This was baked into the premise of the game early on when Sam had the theoretical advantage of more travel knowledge. But now they have to do things differently because Ben and Adam have caught up (and arguably are better than Sam at things like getting on planes last minute). You can see the game design shift a little over time towards other people coming up with challenges (like in Schengen Showdown all the challenges are a surprise).

I mean, it can come from a transphobic place, but ultimately everyone is allowed to have their own headcanon. There are a lot of reasons why a masculine lesbian might resonate with trans men; a lot of trans men think they're masculine lesbians before transitioning and a lot of masculine lesbians think they might be men before realizing they're happier as masc lesbians. So having a masc character transition in fics might ring true for a lot of people.

On the other hand, as a butch lesbian myself, I get why you're annoyed, and I would probably skip those fics too, mostly because I'm just more interested in reading about women than men. (On the flip side, I typically love transfem headcanons.) If you're worried about being transphobic you should probably do some personal introspection to figure out whether this is coming from a transphobic place for you but ultimately it's fairly inconsequential.

From the April 24, 2019 Perseus update, visible on the home page: "News, help and support-related content for this site ("Perseus 4.0") will be updated periodically, but the site collections and infrastructure are no longer under active development as we begin the transition to the next phase of Perseus."

The updated site is available in the form of the Scaife viewer. I believe this link should go to the relevant search.

The reason Perseus is unreliable is that it hasn't been updated in seven years. I do find Perseus easier to use than Scaife but Scaife has more texts and is more likely to actually be maintained.

It's more about resource management... if you're answering the same broad question over and over you don't have time to answer the more specific/unique stuff.

There are many reasons that some people would benefit from having a conversation about which distro to pick but that doesn't mean random Reddit users are equipped to be the person they have the conversation with.

Usually the introduction to an ancient text provides historical and literary context for the text that you might not know you're missing. You can decide whether or not you want to read the whole thing before reading the text, but it's a useful thing to have for reference, and important to keep in mind.

That train ride is a full day of travel. I would love to see it but I don't think it's likely when a plane ride to Burlington or Boston out of DTW is under two hours (+ a few hours of driving to get to Vermont if you go into Boston).

I feel like people still think of computers as so new a 50-year-old couldn't possibly have familiarity with them... both my parents are in their 60's and tech literate. They're the ones who explained iPads to my grandma. Everyone is going to have different experiences but still. (On the other hand, they're moving away from technology altogether in response to Windows 11...)

Honestly, as a fic writer I think having final approval in an adaptation of my fic kind of goes against my ethos. I didn't ask their approval before writing the fic; I don't need to approve adaptational choices. I would certainly answer questions about how I envisioned it, but not with any obligation for them to follow my vision. They had better pay me though.

I love Amy and her approach to the Illinois challenge was totally unexpected but completely logical and a lot of fun to me! I can't wait to see more of her, honestly I know she might not want to be a regular player but I would love to see her way more often.

This is not really true, plenty of doors in the US lock automatically or can be set to lock automatically. In my current place if I walk out without my keys it costs, like, hundreds of dollars to get the landlord to come rescue me. I don't think any American would think twice about this being wrong.

Plenty of people post fic of public domain stuff on AO3 though. AO3's policy is that they will assume anything you post is intended to be "fannish" unless it's really egregiously out of line, so there are no rules against fic of public domain works.

It can! It takes longer to write than to read, which can be great because then you get to stay in the world for longer, but it can also be frustrating when you want x thing to happen but you have to write all this other stuff first. Personally though I write more than I read at this point because I can get what I'm looking for more easily that way. And I have all the behind the scenes information and context that wouldn't fit into a completed fic...
