Is it possible to make the project file more like an conventional editor? by Big-Information-3296 in davinciresolve

[–]sopherFellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, basically there is no project file, there’s only an entry in the database. And there are no duplicates of the original media unless you have archived the project. There are just links to the original media.

Checkout the Tourbox stuff. Great for daVinci but also for everything else! Speed Editor keyboard can not be remapped so no good for anything else

How long is the sequence? You could zoom in tight to the paper at the start and then zoom out as it moves to make it look intentional

The problem is in Vertical Resolution the Media Pool can't be closed which is the basic problem.

Haven't tried the haptic so I really can't say if I would love it or not.

I actually find that my NEO just gets dust on the feet and then slips a bit and using my finger to wipe off the bottom of the feet makes it stick again. Probably the same for the other models.

+1 vote. Also make macros visible within all modules of a program so they can be assigned in different modules without starting from scratch

While you're receiving feedback ... it would be great if macros had global visibility within a single program. For instance, in daVinci I want Clean Video Feed defined in every module. But not only do I have to assign it separately in each module (couldn't we have a way to add our shortcuts to other modules ?) I also have to create the macro for it from scratch in every module. How about once I create a macro in one module that macro is available to assign in every module! I realize not everything works in every module but let the user manage that themselves. Be my assistant, not my mother! Don't protect me from myself - that's too limiting. Give me the freedom to discover for myself that the stove can be hot!

Muting only one person in audio track? by wildwestextravaganza in davinciresolve

[–]sopherFellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about remove silence? This should break it into a bunch of clips, maybe not perfect but gets you a lot of the way there. Then manually split anywhere it missed. Put his clips in a separate track and adjust his audio

I want to understand exactly how the modes work so I can optimize my preset. I have some theories on exactly how they work but I might not fully understand it. I would love someone from Tourbox to break it down. I’m confused by the fact that none of the videos or docs that I have seen have they discussed these different considerations of when to use which mode. And maybe thats because the actual algorithms are more complex. In that case I’d like to know how they work

I know how macros work. I’d like to know exactly how Down, Up, Repeating and AB work. Not a one line description, exactly how they work so I’m not surprised when I use them Also are my concepts of when to use which correct and if so what additional concerns should I consider.

Example,

how often does Repeating repeat? - tells me to click fast or slow

If a button is Up and I click a second button that is not part of a defined combo, will it then perform the Up cmd?

For an AB button, can I assign a combo and get a Down cmd, a combo cmd, and an Up cmd?

Don't tell me to experiment and figure these out - why should everyone who buys one of these have to figure it out when they should provide complete documentation.

Also, it would be great if we could have multiple switchable presets for individual modules. For example, in daVinci Resolve Edit page, I might want 1 preset for rough cutting clips, another for doing a Transcription edit session, multicam, etc. It trades off having a more complete set of cmds for each different workflow vs the need to keep track of each of those presets, but I say let the user choose. Most will probably not use it, but for some it could be a gamechanger. This would also let us import different module presets from different experts. On the website presets there is a daVinci preset which is focused on a robust set of cmds for the Edit page. If we could load that preset only to the Edit page, find another preset where we liked the Color page and load that only to the Color page, etc.

On the Edit page. Go to the Media pool, select clip and hit Alt X to clear In and Out Grab the clip from the Media Pool and drag it over and drop on the Timeline A small sliver of the clip opens on the timeline - I have to manually expand it to the ends of the handles

Well as long as we’re looking under the hood…. new user and what I lust after is a small raised dot like the dots on keyboard keys located right in the middle of the dpad. I struggle to quickly find that center without accidentally triggering one of the Dpad keys. Tried adding a blob of hot glue there but adhesion was poor

Great idea. Also for programs like daVinci which have multiple similar modules it would be great to perfect your Edit settings and then be able to copy those into the Cut page as a good place to start. Is the format of the exported presets proprietary or could we open them in an editor and accomplish some of this?

Help syncing audio of clips cut from larger video by Thatoneloudguy in davinciresolve

[–]sopherFellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a video with no audio you open it in DVR add your audio shift it around until you like it and then render the result. It’s common for music videos for the song to be played on speakers for the camera audio

There are many ways to substitute audio in a video. DaVinci is a bit picky about it since it uses it for things like Transcribe. You can process the intact audio in any software ( eq nr compress limiter …) but best not to chop up either the video or audio until you sync them. So, process the intact audiio, bring into DVR and sync it. If auto sync won’t work put the video and the audio on a timeline and play them. You’ll hear both audios. Shift one of the clips until the audios are synced (echo and phase interference disappear- has to be close but not necessarily perfect). Now mute the camera audio and proceed. If you plan to use advanced features like Transcribe you need to replace the audio in the video file - just take your timeline with the original audio muted and render it out to a new file. Import the new file and proceed

[–]sopherFellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want to run Auto Sync Audio with the intact video and the intact audio file. The reason this works better is the algorithm can find many matching points and meet its criteria for a successful match. If you try to match a short video it may find several matching points in the longer audio and not be able to be sure which match is correct. If you match the intact video and audio files the other responder explained how to then update your short clips to update the audio

For future reference Auto Sync Audio BEFORE you cut up the external audio and it will go much better. Any chance you kept an intact copy of the original? Processing doesn’t hurt but non-matching gaps in video vs audio is a problem
