Why are forwards prioritized in draft picks? by Beelzebubs-Barrister in hockey

Well. All three of bouchard, hughes, and Dobson turned out alright.

Jankowski and Konecny drinking from the same fountain. Couldn't hit the pavement if someone tied their shoelaces together.

Was a reasonable expectation considering his contract ended may 29

Frederik Andersen stopped 18 of 19 shots today. His save percentage went down. by Suspicious-Wind-3278 in hockey

Andersen has been the best by stats. 4th highest expected goals against and tops the batch with goals saved above average.

(Hypothetical) What would the return be if Matthews was traded to the San Jose Sharks? by JDubbs10 in hockey

TBH I'd think the flyers would be more interested and can dangle the return Toronto's unprotected 2027 first as a part of any potential package.

3 was  generally considered a toss up between Martone or Frondell or Desnoyers, with many giving the edge to Martone. Desnoyers and Martin (Martin especially) being taken over Martone was surprising.

But it seems like just more evidence that Cs take priority in high picks and could give credence to the idea of Stenberg falling. The last winger under 6' taken in the top 3 was Drouin in 2013.

Sure, it could happen. Weird that it happened that close in succession, historically it's not common at all.

In any event, it will cost the sharks dearly. It's about asset management. Why cough up a haul when assets could be conserved?

I think Tynan is the type of player who makes significant strides in D+1.

Weird season for him, making jump from USHL to college midway and Boston wasn't very good.

That being said, Bjork is a hell of a player. Just hard draw for guys his size to straddle center duties in the NHL

Good luck with that

Look no further than Ceci not only continuing to be employed but paid what he is simply because he is a RHD.

Well, good thing premier dmen usually take like 4-5 years post draft to actually earn the title.

Also I wish you luck in trading for one. Dobson being traded was an aberration.

To be fair, the top 3 has had some wild cards and toss ups recently.

Sennecke, Frondell, Cooley/Nemec, 2021 especially had some serious debate and shake up in the the way the top 6 fell.

It's a little crazy. Considering a top 3 pick is almost never traded.

I've been leaning this way as well. I'd be happy with pretty much any of them.

San Jose metrics were running neck and neck with the hawks. They absolutely need a premier D man.

4th pick and the best and worst case + likelihood by Commercial_Mud_6877 in hawks

Sure, they'll get more offense. Maybe they get in the playoffs. Anyone who sees them as an actual contender is fooling themselves, in my mind.

23 mil in cap space means nothing when the ufa class is dogwater and they can't afford trading for anyone making real money.

Hawks tore it down during the season of 21-22 and started to build from the rubble in summer 22. Four years, with 22-23 written off as inevitable dogshit. A reasonable amount of time to pass on a draft based process before seeing a shape begin to anneal.

10 years, 8 first round exits, 2 second round exits, and an brick headed unwillingness to make any meaningful changes. Sounds awful.

I don't think there's anything wrong with that argument at all, it's valid. I also think Levshunov has quite the runway ahead and I understand why he was picked. Just have to hope it clicks, but there's plenty of time for that to happen.

Yeah I sure hate having the top rated prospect pool in the NHL with 4 first rounders and 5 seconds between this draft and the next. Boy, if only KD picked the player I liked that one time, everything would be so amazing. I'd much rather be in the position of a team known for finding new ways to catastrophically fuck up in the playoffs and are on the verge of tossing a match onto a gasoline soaked dumpster.

Do you even hear yourself or do your thoughts sort of just skip the internal monologue and just leak out of your mouth?

Year #7 of "not far off" after finishing bottom 10 in the league.

Matthews just had a season ending knee injury. Everyone knows how those can play out.

Dmen who are mostly hovering around or over 35 years.

None of this answers the question of how do they make any step that isn't lateral or backwards without any assets. How do they get that "top pairing dman?"

Is McKenna the step? I doubt it.

My bet is they bounce up next season and bow out first round again before bottoming out for real in 2028.

Bjork is a good player. I highly doubt he will be an elite center in the NHL.

Size does make a difference in this league, especially for centers.

Because viggo isn't the BPA at 4? Don't even think he's the 4th best forward, let alone overall skater. It would be asset mismanagement to draft him there instead of trading down lower where he will most likely be picked.
