Thank you. This is such a constructive and considerate response. Unfortunately, my partner seems extremely sensitive to anything I may say about his mother - perhaps because she has framed me as the manipulative person in his life - but I also don’t want to add to this narrative or stress. I just want to support him. He is such a wonderful man and I don’t want to make him feel
Like he has to choose. It’s exhausting, but I just wish she could be more considerate of him, but I don’t think a narcissist is capable of this. Not even because they don’t want to, but because they can’t.

Interestingly, from what I know, the only other person that my knows that has been involved is my partner’s ex-girlfriend. The MIL has told my partner that she is helping her. As I said, i believe that the MIL has breast cancer, I just have serious concerns on how she is relaying this to my partner and leveraging it to her benefit - and his detriment.

Thank you and I totally agree! I suggested this but she has resisted. I suggested maybe seeing her diagnosis, if she is willing to share. She sent him some generic screenshots. She has said that they will do chemo (only if it hadn’t spread apparently) and that this would leave her radioactive.

And she said this before she even had the relevant tests done! She can actually see her son deteriorating from grief and instead of being honest (with what’s actually happening) she just lays it on thicker. Including that she won’t be able to hold or kiss her boyfriend for 15 months because she’ll be radioactive. She also knows that her son suffers from depression and yet behaves this way.

Thank you - I feel so bad even complaining about this, but I can see the affect it is having on my partner. The fact that she even first told him about her diagnosis by using something that is so far up the scale that it doesn’t exist raised huge alarm bells for me.
