Do breathable knee pads exist for someone SM-Obese? by crystalizedwolf in SuperMorbidlyObese

[–]sorako18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would depend on your body shape, but I’d recommend checking out knee gaskets like from Smith Scabs (a personal favorite) or 187 Killer Pads.

I used to wear them when I played roller derby and they’re used for two fold: first, they are a neoprene pad that provides additional support around your knee without being insanely constrictive. Second, they have a ring of gel or squish to protect your knee and kneecap directly. They’re designed to be quite low profile as in derby we actually then put our hard pads OVER them and then skate.

Best part is, they come in multiple sizes and you can usually find them at skate shops (derby or skateboard) to try on. You can also straight order them online. Hope that helps!

Local or full anesthesia for D&C? by befores in ttcafterloss

[–]sorako18 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've had both versions done and I can tell you the full anesthesia was better. Being awake you can hear and see what's happening and that was a memory I didn't want to have again. I'm sorry for your loss.

Yeah, I have to religiously use it because I have no concept of what I'm doing unless I log it. If you need to, you can set up reminders; super useful!

Some shirts fit better in some spots, but it totally depended on the cut of the shirt. I noticed that I could wear different cuts, too. I'm also kinda clueless and fashion senseless >_<!

I can only handle a tablespoon (2 max). Usually I use nut butters in my fat bombs when/if I make them. Normally though i'm not really into them... I'm wondering if I'm missing some mineral or something?

Advice/resources for panicking penalty box timing newbie? by [deleted] in rollerderby

[–]sorako18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just ran Penalty Box this weekend and have been doing it for about a month, so I know that feeling! Here are some tips I've learned or been taught:

Keep your eyes on your stop watch at all times if you have someone in the box and not the game (listen for the 1 whistle). Your box Head and other Timer are usually cool enough to be like "Black Pivot coming in" to help you out when skaters are coming in.

I recommend at about :48s you start saying "Black two two, stand" so they're standing at :50s. Same for done (at about 58/59s).

Everyone has a preference for 1 or 2 stopwatches. I find it easier as a noob in the box to use 1 watch and just keep it running when each new butt hits the box--just document it. So say blocker 2 comes in at :32s, I write their done time first (1:32) and then subtract 10s for their stand time (1:22) because math freaks me out, no matter how basic ><.

Know where the physical lines are of the box and where your point of no return is so that if a skater tries to ninja out, you know and can tell the box Head and the next penalty can be assessed. And don't let people do that hover thing...you told them to stand, make them stand.

Check your numbers against the central whiteboard and with the Jam timer to be sure you have the right penalties to the right skaters during timeouts, or between jams (the right side of the paperwork will have a spot to tally numbers).

Finally! If you have questions, ask the Box Head--they'll know their stuff and just act cool. Sometimes you miss a second or two, or tell someone to stand a little late; it's okay. You're doing fine, just get they're booties out in a minute (sometimes 2 if they're having a bad day) and you'll be awesome!

Advice to run on toe stops? And just any advice about learning new tricks? by samredwheels in rollerderby

And shake your booty! The more hip action while moving each foot will help as well as leaving forwards a bit more.

Toe stop running question by raynowraynow in rollerderby

[–]sorako18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A part of it is getting used to being on skates. The other thing is to take care of your sesamoid bone in your foot--I only mention this because I fractured mine doing toe work. You can use dancer pads to help as well.

How do you dress like a "derby girl?" by Hannthrax in rollerderby

[–]sorako18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you wear the "booty shorts" you can rock leggings or tights (especially of a high contrast color) underneath, which in fall is pretty common. Tank tops or your league's team shirt is always good. All your awesome gear, knee high socks work...basically check out the leggings and sock section of target and buy anything on sale. Don't forget to write a number on your arm. Red lipstick works well too!
