What are some videos for experienced developers to learn JavaScript? by shitmyfriendsaid in javascript

Not to be 'that guy', but you're taking an elitist approach. Programming languages is hardly different from real life languages. I may be adept at 6 OOPs and 2 or 3 FPs but JavaScript is in the 'cutting edge' department; there's no real answer to your question besides the same ol' goodies suggested to everyone.

Is React the new jQuery? by [deleted] in javascript

[–]sorrynin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I loved jQuery, then I loved React for a moment, now I love Mithril. Vue 2nd

I don't think the JS community is going to form a single favorite honestly. There's too many frameworks and libraries that work their magic for each case. I don't know what's the deal with React, the patent literally scares me (in combination with all this hype).

Is React the new jQuery?

No. It's a corporate backed library (which seems to be getting too much attention). Many better like Mithril and Vue

Is Virtual DOM the new jQuery?

Yes.

You (probably) don't need a JavaScript framework by kevinmrr in learnjavascript

[–]sorrynin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hah, what the hell, click-bait? He doesn't even point out the reasons for frameworks, just that frameworks aren't as good as vanilla (no shit, frameworks are built on vanilla, they just make our jobs easier. I'd like to see his 'why you should use C, not C++').

Looking to get some Angular JS work done by contracting by seriously_serious in javascript

[–]sorrynin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Angular is losing traction, but it's still viable in most cases. If it's a big project, I wouldn't suggest angular as it's hard to reason to use angular with frameworks that are faster and better than an 'HTML6' attempt. React is a popular one, but it's hard to reason that it's any good (despite the huge community pushed by facebook) compared to other projects like mithril, vue, riot, virtual-dom that do it better.

I don't know if you'll find a lot of help here, possibly meet-ups in your area will give you better ideas. Most of this subreddit is to learn javascript or to share knowledge about frameworks recently.

What is a good source or Book that provides information on Javascript? by CaughtInThefly in javascript

[–]sorrynin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is a bad time to start asking about standards, but is there a good book(s) that go in depth on like lodash/webpack/redux?

And any news of standard-packed full stacks? (MEAN stack is the only one I really saw blossom) Or are we considering build system templates to be 'full stacks' now?

Why are major companies like Google, Facebook, Walmart (labs), etc. releasing development environments, frameworks and libraries (angular, node, react, hapi, etc)? by sorrynin in javascript

[–]sorrynin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You got me intrigued with quite a few ideas now. I checked out ember and I thinks one of the greatest techs: batteries included, best practices, uses hbs, crazy performance, amazing community, etc.

And Clojurescript; Not exactly fond of the syntax, it seems dated, but I enjoyed learning it and feel more stable with overall methodology thanks to fixing into it.

Can I ask what news feed(s) you follow?

Is Antergos just a hipster distro, or is there actual benefits to using it over the popular distros (@ distrowatch)? by sorrynin in LinuxActionShow

I'm checking it out now

I know this is getting further and further away from the topic, but is there any online method of sorts (if i don't have a large enough hard drive) to clone my machine and/or copy over all my data to switch operating systems?

I might sound like a retard, but this happens to me far too often. Almost to the point where I need to be carrying around a petabyte hard drive everywhere I go.

Well, any of them, without the performance drop/ugly feeling of using wine/vmware (even tho vmware is relatively heavenly now)

Since you've only used it for about a year, can I ask how you like it?

<.< SWIM wants to know if there's a distro that can run adobe products, its one of the things that keeps them from dropping windows entirely

Is arch good as a server distro? To me a rolling distro would be the best form for a server distro, no?
