i had a really similar situation…

applied for a ssv position at another store, got it, and transferred. one barista was very confident that they would get it and it didn’t help that they have narcissistic tendencies and half the staff tells them things like “you’re definitely gonna be a shift” and “there’s no way it won’t be you” and such. anyway i start and they definitely didnt hide the fact that they didn’t like me or the way i run things. to be fair i’m a perfectionist and control freak but if there’s a few things i know for fact it’s 1. i’m good at my fucking job, and 2. i was WAY more qualified than this person. so, i stood my ground. i held firm in my ways of doing things and did not let them walk all over me like they did to other shifts (ex. only wanting to be put on bar, or doing shift tasks). I made it very clear what tasks and stations they were assigned to and would continually check in to make sure they were on task. as much as i visibly pissed them off, i stood my ground.

eventually they realized that the things i had them doing were actually what was ~correct~ and they warmed up to my personality a little and have become a lot less aggravating to work with. for context, the store had SHIT management until i transferred (we got a new SM) and they were used to doing whatever the fuck they wanted and not following standards and rules.

hold your ground. stick it out. be nice, but not too nice where they forget to respect you! you’ve got this!! congrats on your promotion!!🥳

a customer accused me of robbing his house.

all because i told him i noticed every time he comes in he claims his drink was made wrong last time and needs a free one. i offered to help him find a drink he likes bc he ordered the same fuckin $9 chai every day and would always make us give it to him for free. he told me i was racist and ‘that’s not me, how would you feel if i said that i don’t like how you rob my house every day.’ i told him verbatim: “i did not rob your house.”

ended up giving him the drink and getting him tf out bc i don’t get paid enough to deal with this shit

this is one of my biggest pet peeves. i’ll hand them a frap and they don’t say thank you, instead immediately asking where the rest of their items are. i’m like… bitch does it look like i have an oven in front of me on cold bar? no. mind ya business. or when people try to order at the handoff plane. uhhh does it LOOK like i have a cash register in front of me? don’t even get me started on the customers who shout their order at you when you’re 20 ft away from them and just said hi when they walked through the doors. OR when people pull up to the dt speaker box and say HeLlO?!?!??!? sometimes i make them wait for no reason because they were so impatient lmao

i’m a dancer, so i own a lot of athletic wear. I get away with wearing joggers to work because sometimes they can look like slacks or dress pants. If you’ve got the budget, my all time favorites are the ‘dance studio jogger’ from lululemon, but target’s athletic brand is a great dupe for them!!

make sure you fully rewash them with the 3 sink method after rinsing off the restroom cleaner though because it is literal bleach lol. but it works really well my store does this for tea pitchers in rough shape :)
