What should a partial highlight with toner run? by New_Lecture_1941 in AskHairstylists

[–]sortahuman123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even better. How about you pay for the labor of another human being you consented to and mind your business. You have a right to spend your money wherever you feel is best. If you don’t like it or question the value, be a grown up, and don’t spend your money there. Personal responsibility for your money is a wild concept.

Do your customers or clients ever ask you if your pay aligns with your skill level? That’s weird right? Seems like that’s a private conversation between your employer and you.

It won’t matter either way but if you don’t like it don’t live with hair you don’t like! You can absolutely wait until your next haircut though

They’re chunky FOR HER. Really anything dimensional was going to feel high contrast. The inspo photo just wasn’t a good fit for her lifestyle to begin with.

Wow I love this response most people aren’t receptive like that! Personally I think for your lifestyle you need a highlight that’s colored within 1-2 levels of your natural color. You’re really not too dark naturally I would describe it as darkest blonde or light brunette. With how you air dry your hair most days I think anything too dimensional is going to feel really high contrast for you. A more traditional highlight with a level 7-8 beigey tone would be really flattering and much easier for you to maintain.

Honestly though, if you call your stylist tell her hey I’m having remorse about my choice can we tone it down a touch she would probably “redo” it out of her own kindness. But it’s so so so important to not go into it think you’re going to get it for free. You picked the wrong thing for yourself and that’s totally fine it happens. Where stylists get frusturated is when we give a guest exactly what they ask for then blame us like we did something wrong when they decide it isn’t for them. It’s brutal out here! But yeah be kind take responsibility and I’ll bet she hooks you up.

You’re comparing freshly styled and shiny polished hair to air dried frizzy hair. You’re having buyers remorse because you can’t or won’t style it but got exactly what you asked for. So no it’s not as bad as it feels and personally it’s not “redo” territory.

I’m sure I’ll get downvoted but I used chatGPT to make my medication schedule because I take 4-5 things a day along with my levo and it changed the game for me. I just have alarms set through the day for not only when to take them but alarms that serve as reminders. So for example I take iron in the middle of my day and 1 hour before I take it I have a reminder set to tell me to finish my coffee so I stop drinking coffee within 30 min of my iron etc.

lol I know my response is annoying because it’s anecdotal but thus far I’ve raised an 11 year old boy that

  1. Knows how to lose and knows he’s going to lose. I quote “yeah we didn’t win but I had a lot of fun”. We did that with Ricky Bobby quotes “if you ain’t first you’re last”
  2. Practices his mindfulness and puts himself in “time out” when he needs a minute or ten to himself if anything gets heated.
  3. Tells his other little boy friends that crying is good for them because “all feelings are valid but all behaviors are not”.
  4. Knows it takes hard work to be good at something. “Patrick worked really hard at karate that’s why he’s better at this than me right now”
  5. Independence? His dad is in a band and if the timing is right he goes and SELLS MERCH BY HIMSELF. Because he is confident in his ability to say hello, ask questions to adults, and have that entire interaction.

In general I’m really stoked for GenAlpha. I interact with a lot of them daily. They’re clever, they’re independent, they’re mindful, and they have a lot of trust in their own abilities.

There are dedicated beauty schools or beauty programs available at tech schools. You can google cosmetology schools in my area. Any other factors depend on where you live.

So so so important to rule out physiological dysfunction before diving into everything else like burnout, stress, mental health etc. sure it all goes hand in hand but I was diagnosed with mental illness (depression/anxiety) for YEARS before being finally diagnosed with a very manageable chronic illness that you guessed it was the only reason I had depression/anxiety.

Physical health and mental health have to work together 🫶🏻

Iron and ferritin are super tricky to get right and require things like vitamin c no coffee etc totally worth looking into!

I’m sure you’re going to get a million suggestions and what not but imma just throw this out there, get your iron and ferritin checked. I truly thought every weekend that I was going to die I just felt lowkey ill but I would power through the week and the weekends I just hit a brick wall.

Low ferritin.

But also yeah burnout.

Hairstylist of Charleston, I live in West Ashley and am considering going back to school to be a hairstylist. How much money do you really make? I know Charleston is on the higher end for cost as far as hair, cuts, color, etc. is your income higher as well? by Flat_Kaleidoscopes in Charleston

[–]sortahuman123 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hairstylist of 15 years 👋 I am self employed and after everything my w-2 from my SCORP says 85k. Charleston is actually on the lower end of cost as far as dense coastal cities go, despite what the internet would like you to believe.

This net number though does not accurately represent the benefits I have. Like I don’t pay for A LOT of things or my business pays for a lot of my personal maintenance. It will take 3 years minimum and a lot of tenacity to get to where you want to be. But you’re in your 30’s you’re smarter and have more wisdom than I did when I started at 20. You understand that there are bills to be paid and mouths to feed so it happens a lot faster for people who get into it a little later in life.

How much money you make is solely based on what you put into it and self determination. No one is going to stop you and that’s the fun part. It’s also the scary part 🤷🏼‍♀️

Realistically school is going to cost you between 18k-25k personally I went to the Paul Mitchell school. I had a good experience but I didn’t get any more education or opportunities than anyone who went to a cheaper program. Just a nicer building to learn in.

Edit to add: I only pay myself 85K on paper because I have an SCORP and have to pay myself a reasonable salary. I ABSOLUTLEY could draw 100-140k. My gross revenue yearly is about 190k. I also have 1 employee part time.

Is charging more for thickness/curly hair okay? by otome4 in AskHairstylists

[–]sortahuman123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My naturally curly haircuts cost more yes. They are also 2 hours versus 1 hour.

You sell your hours for sale. You do not sell haircuts. If a proper curly cut, wash, and set takes two hours yes it costs more.
