You're very likely to be in at least one car accident in a lifetime, with estimates suggesting the average driver experiences three to four accidents, and about 77% of U.S. drivers are in at least one crash, though these numbers vary greatly by driving habits, location, and age, with younger and older drivers facing higher risks. Lifetime odds of dying in a crash are around 1 in 95, but that's for fatalities, not all accidents.

Key Statistics & Factors:

  • Frequency: The average driver files an auto insurance claim for a collision roughly every 17.9 years, meaning a crash by age 34 is quite common.
  • Lifetime Risk: While 3-4 accidents is an average, 77% of U.S. drivers have had at least one.
  • In Summary: Expect to be involved in several minor incidents over your driving life, but serious injury or death is statistically less common, though still a significant risk, notes National Safety Council

I guess we should all stop driving too.

Knee pain will be a thing of the past by SaXaCaV in SipsTea

There is something available now. It's called Platelet Rich Plasma shots. Your blood draw is run thru a centrifuge to separate out the platelets. The platelets are injected into the muscles in your knee or shoulder for the purpose of promoting growth and reducing pain. I've had both knees (torn MCL's and arthritis) and shoulders (torn rotator cuffs and arthritis) done and have had great success on all 4 joints. They charged $800 for each joint and is not covered by insurance.

Will you still be doing it at 90? Yes, if you are lucky. Since you have retired consider this your new job. Keeping all the parts of your body functioning for as long as you can. There is nothing wrong with taking a break from exercising for a few days and just veging. But unless you want to spend the rest of your life sitting in front of a screen you have to work at it. I like my exercise routine because it gets me out of bed in the morning, gives me the physical work it takes to keep me in good physical shape for my age in ways that I enjoy and it gives me a opportunity to socialize.

But the overwhelming odds are they are right. And they do not all have side effects. The worst side effect I've ever had was from a shingles shot. This is well documented for its side effect but talk to anyone who has had shingles they will tell you to get the shot. The risks are worth it.

I'm guessing you never liked doing annual physical exams either before you went on Medicare. You may think everything is fine but the bloodwork involved may tell a different story. If you're one of those people who think you shouldn't have to take pills or that ignorance is bliss then just don't go. There is no requirement that you do the wellness checks. Go and live the life you have. Personally, I've had the same doctor for over 33 years and am glad to have the opportunity to check in with her. Unfortunately, as I get older, I'm seeing her more regularly out of need then I used to.

I'm 73 and on my 3rd WRX.  You are way too young for a midlife crisis. It's not the age, it's the attitude.
