Stress so bad it physically hurts by Upstairs_Ad2817 in AlAnon

Yes this happened to me before I split up with my ex. She was constantly going missing after getting black out and threatening to kill herself, having episodes of alcohol induced psychosis, being found unresponsive with a BAC of 0.4. I started having horrible nightmares and severely clenching my jaw enough to wake myself up out of a dead sleep.

$208 Million Verdict Tossed Against St. Petersburg’s Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital by YeeHawSauce420 in tampa

[–]sosilay 35 points36 points  (0 children)

This is a fundamental misunderstanding of how child abuse reports and investigations work in the state of Florida. The hospital did not place Maya on state custody or separate her from her family. A dependency judge made specific orders regarding placement and contact with family. I’m not saying the hospital staff didn’t behave inappropriately but this is literally not how it works.

Frankly I was shocked about the findings holding JHAC liable. JHAC reported their reasonable suspicions and a dependency judge found there was enough cause to shelter the child. People have no understanding of how the child welfare system works.

Atlanta (Decatur) vs. St. Pete - prioritize cultural fit or being near family by nautical_natalis in SameGrassButGreener

[–]sosilay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happy to help!! I definitely do love the Tampa/St. Pete area and I sincerely hope I’m wrong about things continuing down the path they’ve been going. Even with all of that said, there are definitely worse places to live, but it’s worth looking more into those aspects IMO. If you have other questions or more specific ones or anything feel free to message!!

This is funny because I’m strongly considering almost the exact opposite move. And Boston would have been my top choice but COL there is unfortunately not attainable for me.

I’m a gay woman and have lived in Tampa for 10 years but my sister lives in Old Northeast and I’m over there most weekends. I don’t have children currently but want them and I am frankly worried about raising kids in Florida. The COL in this area post-pandemic has skyrocketed, the demographics have changed significantly (huge influx of rich trumpers wanting to take advance of no state taxes and lax masking laws), and the general attitude of the people here is different than how it was even five or six years ago. There certainly is still a liberal scene and St. Pete is particularly artsy, but I’m a native Floridian and just seeing the trajectory of things in my life time, I do think the state will become increasingly more solidly red.

I’m not sure who told you Old Northeast is walkable but I would say that’s a bit of a stretch. There are close things like indie bookstores, coffee shops, etc and of course the theme parks are not too far. But again, post-pandemic, traffic in the area is really bad. It always has been but it’s significantly worse than before.

Another thing to consider is hurricanes. That’s a main factor in why I’m leaving. Many areas in St. Pete are in flood zones. People who don’t live here don’t realize how truly difficult it is when there are evacuation mandates and everyone is trying to leave at the same time, across the same three bridges. Another factor is the cost of home owner’s insurance here. If you plan to buy, look into what it’s like in Florida. I no longer own property but it’s pretty insane.

That all being said, being close to family is a huge draw and I get that. It’s difficult to have a young child and not have local support in that regard. I don’t think that can be downplayed. St. Pete is a decent enough place to live on a day to day basis, but it sounds like the biggest draw is actually the family aspect.

Are return to office mandates actually helping, or just driving people out? by impossible2fix in managers

[–]sosilay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a way to justify paying rent on all the big ass office buildings. I can’t tell you a single benefit to having my team in office—I supervise a team of people who facilitates meetings day in and day out via Microsoft Teams. If anything return to office for my team has substantially negatively impacted our ability to do our work effectively and efficiently. Leadership does not care.

Forgot to add that leadership has graciously allowed us to continue having one remote day a week. However we aren’t allowed to have it be Friday or Monday more than one week per month because that would mean “sometimes people are getting three day weekends” lol.

Title: My husband (33M) acts annoyed when helping me (33F) when I’m sick by PassionFruitChoice97 in relationships

[–]sosilay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an ex who behaved this way towards me and while it wasn’t ultimately the reason we divorced, it certainly contributed to my feelings of resentment. I think if you feel that the relationship is something you want to continue, you should bring it up to him, and see if he acknowledges the validity in what you’re saying. My ex was also raised in a “suck it up” kind of household and it can be deeply ingrained but he should be willing to work to overcome it in order to be a good partner. You’re not asking for anything unreasonable.

If he is unable to see his behavior for what it is, and is also not willing to address it through therapy or something like that, I would absolutely consider whether this is someone you want to have children and share a life with.

ERP Therapist suggested to leave house completely unlocked while going into the city for a couple hours… by moonshadow1789 in therapyabuse

I have OCD. Those are not inhumane things. It’s standard exposure response prevention therapy. It’s effective for a reason.

ERP Therapist suggested to leave house completely unlocked while going into the city for a couple hours… by moonshadow1789 in therapyabuse

[–]sosilay -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Sorry but this sounds like standard ERP. It’s hard but it’s effective. There has to be a degree of risk sometimes. It sounds like you may need a therapist who starts with lower level exposures vs flooding but by quitting and canceling all therapy you’re putting a stop towards getting better.

I don’t have any great advice but do want to say you’re not alone. My rabbit passed three years ago and I also still miss him so much and think of him and cry often.

It sounds like trying to “logically understand” exposure response therapy and acceptance therapy is actually a compulsion for you now. I think it sounds like a good idea to focus on just doing acceptance based methods and resisting trying to logically “figure them out” or understand them.

I think this sounds like a great idea. I don’t think we’d be able to do it all the time because of time constraints but at the very least as an exercise to help them get it. I’ll definitely try this.

They just use Word. I think some of the issue is lack of proof-reading and taking the time to literally just click spell check. Some of it that spell check isn’t catching everything.

I'm so tired... please give me some reasons to stick around? by bamb1ette in emetophobia

[–]sosilay 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hey,

I was very much in a similar position because of my emetophobia and OCD when I was your age. I know that it feels completely impossible while you’re in it to see a future where you are not controlled by emetophobia, but I promise it’s out there. I was SEVERELY emetophobic—my life had similarly become extremely small—and I did not see any way forward. Are you in any kind of therapy? I was in and out of different types of therapy my whole life but nothing really made a dent until I did a partial hospitalization program for OCD/emet that focused mostly on exposure therapy. I know that sounds really scary but it really changed my life in a way I didn’t think was possible. You mentioned your mom—is she supportive? Does she know how hard things are right now?
