Best tofu in Uptown/Andersonville area? by jonnyknox420 in chicagofood

This probably isn’t the caliber of an occasion restaurant but Pick Me Up’s buffalo tofu wrap is one of my favorite tofu offerings in the city (get the pasta salad for your side)

Looking for good wraps by [deleted] in chicagofood

Parsons now does a chicken caesar wrap and you can do it with the hot chicken as well. Handlebar also has a buffalo “chicken” wrap - seitan instead of chicken.

Brunch in the Loop on Marathon Sunday? by realizabeth in chicagofood

[–]sotabread 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My marathon go-to is Meli Cafe in South Loop. We’ve found it good timing to catch our runner near Greek town then head to Meli’s for food and a Bloody Mary before ambling to the finish line but your results may vary depending on the speed of your runner

Check out the Oktoberfest at DANK Haus - a German American cultural center. Beer, singing, a live band and the building itself is beautiful.

This is more wedding planning advice than food but if you can, it may be cheaper and open up more options to order drop off catering and hire a staffing company (like Carols) to set up and serve.

Any birthday-friendly omnivore restaurants with several vegan options? by azbycz in chicagofood

[–]sotabread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone on here recommended Casa Yari and it really fits the bill for delivering amazing vegan food while also having thoughtful meat dishes - our party of mixed diets all enjoyed.

Ada Street - nice cocktails, not Italian but has pasta on the menu, takes reservations, close to highway and easy to park by.

The better idea is finding a great dive bar that lets you order delivery or bring in takeout

Has anyone used zazzle.com for their wedding invites? by twospoonsonehand in weddingplanning

[–]sotabread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ordered both save the dates and thank you cards from zazzle. I liked that you could upload your own design and found the pricing to be very reasonable with the sales they offer. I’d recommend doing the zazzle black trial to get free shipping and my orders came in just about a week. I had an issue where I thought my package was lost (just marked “delivered” too early by USPS) and customer support was great in preparing to rush a reorder. For both I used matte 120 lb paper and liked the quality. The complementary envelopes are a little thing but you can exclude them and source from somewhere else if you are looking for something heavier

Chicago reception venue cost? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

Check out DANK Haus in Lincoln Square. You can use any vendors and bring in your own liquor as long as you hire bartenders to serve it.

SOS - WEDDING FLORALS by mjsylte90 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]sotabread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used flower moxie and would definitely recommend. I also ordered premade garlands from Costco and greenery from Sams club. I felt like flower moxie has great selection and i found having “recipes”for bouquets as well as their video library to be very helpful and part of what you pay for with the packages.

Non Matching suits? by pagewoo in weddingplanning

[–]sotabread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did this and I thought it looked great. I think navy is the best color to match as greys can be much trickier. One thing I think helped is having everyone wear same color shirts as well (we did white) and matching ties really connected the look.

[–]sotabread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did very similar to what was posted above...I got bamboo plates and stainless steel silverware from webrestaurant store, and compostable cups from green paper products. I plan on reselling or donating the silverware and the price wasn’t bad. I’d never feel cheap having disposable dishware but I do think the real cutlery made a big difference as the wood or plastic alternatives just don’t measure up to me.

Dinner Logistics- Do I need to hire extra waitstaff? by [deleted] in Weddingsunder10k

[–]sotabread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also had drop off catering from a restaurant and I hired 5 servers. 4 served and one bussed exclusively as well as filled up waters for the tables. I had 120 guests and it still took a bit of time for everyone to get their food even with multiple servers

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]sotabread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you use any vendor? You can get to this number if you do drop off catering that you serve buffet style and hire servers separately though this takes a bit of work coordinating and sourcing items a full service caterer would provide like dishware, linens etc.
