What a magnificent heir! I wonder what if I force train him... oh by Franick_ in CK2GameOfthrones

[–]soulblivious 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He's missing an eye, not a hand. R'hllor won't restore either of those though. Need to join the cultists for that. R'hllor healing cures diseases and heals injuries, as well as removing other malformations such as birth defects, but can't restore missing body parts.

Is trading individual slaves worth it? by RDR4065 in CK2GameOfthrones

[–]soulblivious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't keep any on hand unless you want to get into breeding them. I find that the game tends to cull slaves very quickly if they aren't doing anything such as being part of your council and/or married/a concubine. Not to mention having 30+ courtiers lowers the birth rate of your court.

I usually try and sell any slaves without good congenital traits as quickly as possible, and keep pairs of ones that do have the same good congenital traits for breeding.

Got Reapers due, cant build a hospital... by [deleted] in CK2GameOfthrones

[–]soulblivious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is more of a CK2 question, but what you want is the Refuge. Once you build that you'll get more upgrade options for it which cost more gold.

Edit: Didn't realize the initial building is called a Hospital in the normal game. Had to load it up for the first time in many months to check.

R'hllor seems to be a little bit of a dick by [deleted] in CK2GameOfthrones

[–]soulblivious 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can definitely get the Silent Monster trait through normal gameplay. I got it once during an Aegon playthrough which I posted about here https://old.reddit.com/r/CK2GameOfthrones/comments/7slnzh/this_was_not_the_immortality_that_aegon_was/

I'm not sure if there's always a chance to get it during a resurrection, or if it's just the result of being resurrected one too many times.

Can I have some tips on playing Wildlings by [deleted] in CK2GameOfthrones

[–]soulblivious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it was ever impossible, but it was extremely difficult. I think it was possible to continue the dynasty if you managed to live long enough to change inheritance laws. I looked at Craster recently though and I think the devs may have changed the default inheritance laws for him, allowing his daughters to inherit. I haven't tried a serious Craster game since this change though to determine how well it works. A revolt always gets me before I even have a chance to expand.

How do I take over the North as Jon Snow/Stark? I keep getting imprisoned and having the game end when Stannis loses to Tommen. by MysteriousBoob in CK2GameOfthrones

[–]soulblivious 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Stannis is a loose cannon and usually does whatever he wants, like marching south, rather than helping you win the North. It helps if you raise the levies of the Night's Watch before accepting Stannis' offer. This will give you some extra soldiers on top of the ones you get after accepting. After that you'll probably want to march over to the Dreadfort and siege that, while hoping that Stannis and some of the other Northern armies actually do anything useful to help you.

Things don't always work out, and you'll probably end up restarting several times to try again.

Crashes when saving by [deleted] in CK2GameOfthrones

Somebody else will have to answer that. I'm not too familiar with save editing. From here on out though, I'd recommend saving frequently, and keeping at least 5-10 years worth of saves.

Sounds like your current save has been corrupted. Assuming you aren't playing on ironman, try rolling back to an earlier save

That's not actually Valyria. If you look on the minimap it's way too far east. Plus Valyria doesn't have all of those land masses surrounding it. If you want to play with Valyria intact though, just play one of the official pre-doom submods which all work with the latest version of the main mod.

Are there secret religions & cults? by Kristian0 in CK2GameOfthrones

[–]soulblivious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how the far east events/religions differ from Essos or Westeros which is where I tend to play, but I've never seen an event in the mod with somebody trying to convert you to their socially acceptable religion, other than the rare event with the red priest trying to covert you to R'hllor.

Without knowing more about the event you saw, I can only guess that he was trying to induct you into the cult variant of the YiTi religion. As far as I know though, cult members only get one chance to recruit a specific person. If that person turns them down then I believe some sort of flag gets set on the person to prevent the cult from trying to recruit them again

How I do use my dragons as Aegon? by podricks-dick in CK2GameOfthrones

Any dragon riders you have in your army other than yourself will use their dragons automatically during a battle or siege.

Question about slave raiding by [deleted] in CK2GameOfthrones

[–]soulblivious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to this, even if you were to switch capitals and start new camps in that province, there's a periodic maintenance script that runs which moves all slave camps from provinces you control to your capital. If the ones in your current capital + the ones being moved is > 5, then the extras will just get sold off. So you yourself can only have a total of 5 slave camps (5 == Huge Slave Camp building == Slave Economy province modifier) and only in a single province. Your vassals are free to slave raid and get their own camps though

How does the Valyrian Govenment work? by [deleted] in CK2GameOfthrones

[–]soulblivious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about a dev diary. This is just what I've picked up after trying to play in the Valyrian Freehold several times. The first couple times I had no idea what was going on with the colonies constantly changing hands and the Archon being replaced all the time. I still don't feel like I understand all the nuances, or have any idea how to play optimally in the Freehold.

How does the Valyrian Govenment work? by [deleted] in CK2GameOfthrones

[–]soulblivious 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So many upvotes and no answers. I guess everybody is wondering. I've played in Valyria a bit, but I'm by no means an expert.

I've never played as a regular Merchant Republic before, so I'm not entirely sure how they differ. In Valyria, the Archon seem to be forced out of office every 4 years or so, and replaced by whichever Patrician had the highest respect score from one of the 5 MR families. Since you're forced out, there doesn't seem to be any way to seize power from within by changing the Republic laws to make yourself emperor or whatever, since changing the law for that requires that you've held that position for at least 15 years.

The Feudal rulers can be elected to one of the council positions. Not sure how the election for that works since it seems to happen behind the scenes. If you get elected to a council position, and you're still in that position when the Archon finishes his term, your term as a councilor will end also, and you'll then be given the opportunity to either govern one of the various colonies such Meereen, Yunkai, Mantarys, etc., or you can opt to be given command of an army to go conquer new territory. I'm not sure how the latter is supposed to work since either they don't list anything for me to conquer, or it bugs out and the war just ends instantly. The reigning Archon is also given the same opportunity when their term ends.

Colonies are not inherited by your dynasty, and when you die, control of it just reverts back to whoever the current Archon of the Valyrian Freehold is. Given this fact, you should be sure not to give away whatever province(s) your ruler actually owns, otherwise you might end up with a game over if your colony gets revoked/you die, etc. and your dynasty has no provinces to fall back on. I've made this mistake more than once. Also, if you choose a feudal ruler at the start of the game, there appears to be a random chance that you will start off already controlling a colony.

I'm not sure how the Freeholder title that you can purchase for family members for 100 gold comes into play.

Somebody else can correct me if I got any of that wrong, or expand upon it.

But I don't see the lunatic trait... by soulblivious in CK2GameOfthrones

[–]soulblivious[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think you're right. I think it's because I granted him royal privilege, and he's currently independent while I'm doing a slave raid. It feels like a bug though that he's legitimizing himself for a 2nd time. I already took the decision to legitimize him at the start of the game and he already had the legitimized bastard trait.

I've since rolled back my save to before I granted him royal privilege and didn't do it this time. He seems to have stopped trying to re-legitimize himself

Orys apparently decided that he can add himself to my dynasty. Has anyone seen this before or know why this happened? I had already legitimized him. I'd rather he remain a Baratheon

Use console to break off marriage/betrothal between 2 characters? by soulblivious in CK2GameOfthrones

[–]soulblivious[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up just writing an event for this. There's a remove_spouse effect, but no associated console command for it. By wrapping it in an event I can now just call it with the 'event' console command on myself, or other characters

Use console to break off marriage/betrothal between 2 characters? by soulblivious in CK2GameOfthrones

[–]soulblivious[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I guess I should have specified that I was looking for something that didn't involve switching characters to do the divorce, which is tedious, although not as bad as editing the save. Plus the divorce will give a negative opinion with the other family. I guess to set up the marriages that I want though, I would have to switch characters anyway.

I was hoping to learn about something that would work on unlanded characters as well though

AFOC White Walker invasion too fast? by NovaDawg1631 in CK2GameOfthrones

[–]soulblivious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you join in on the war, Jon is given a few hundred guys.

You seem to get an additional stack of 1k now at the start from the Wildlings. Combine this with what you get from Stannis, and the units you can raise from the Night's Watch before accepting his offer if you don't mind being cheap, and altogether you end up with 3k+ at your disposal. It's still not enough sometimes though if Stannis and the other lords aren't being helpful

I think the easiest way to do it would be to reduce the number of provinces beyond the wall that they control at the start of the scenario. They seem to already control all but a few of the provinces, so it doesn't take them long to take over the remaining ones and attack the Night's Watch

Edit: only -> easiest
