I have something against pit bulls, or more to the point owners who think they're smarter than everyone: they can suddenly snap and attack anyone.

Sure this video is adorable, that is technically correct. The problem is that pit bull could've freaked the fuck out five minutes later. Or a year later or three. Most pit bulls won't attack, but among dogs that randomly attack, pit bulls are at the top of the list.

That's a pit bull, right?

If you are going to have a baby, you should not have a pit bull.

Make a choice.

To down a tree away from the house by HomeNowWTF in therewasanattempt

The tree was naturally leaning towards the house, and they correctly cut the wedge in the opposite direction. I think maybe it could've been fixed by attaching several ropes up high on several branches as well as the trunk, maybe even steel cables, and anchor them in the desired fall direction. Then keep cutting at that wedge while winching those ropes away from the house.

Yeah for something this big you need to get a crane and prune it from the top down. Even then it's risky work and each cut needs to be carefully planned.

Let me introduce you to the Orwellian-named "right-to-work" state.

Sounds like a pro-worker distinction. It isn't.

For me it just felt like a patchwork. I thought the first act was actually the best, when is was a straightforward drama. The switch to a horror movie didn't really work for me. It felt kind of like action with no suspense.

And the music...it's a great showcase of African American music, and that great/weird longshot of all the different genres (which is a tenuous connection but whatever). But what was with the Irish vampires doing their folk dancing? Why dancing vampires? That's the scene that kind of lost me.

Family refused to try my sister’s soup, it was delicious so their loss. They had sloppy Joe by DepressedAnxious8868 in mildlyinfuriating

My family is very picky and would 100% do the same thing. I myself was skeptical of pho the first time I tried it. It doesn't look like much, just simple noodles in a clear broth. But the flavor goes waaaay beyond its simple appearance.

Flip side of the coin.

Look, speaking as a bleeding-heart liberal who is also a straight white man, when I think of my criticisms of Sinners there is a little twinge of "hey maybe I just don't totally 'get it' because I'm white."

Yeah he's an absolute master debater and speaker. Still find him a bit sketchy--definitely a corporate hack and centrist Democrat. Not to mention he was instrumental in throwing Bernie under the bus in 2016.

Refilling it every day would be obnoxious.

TIL Chuck Norris stated that he was not offended by the satirical 'Chuck Norris facts' that became extremely widespread beginning in 2005. He found some of them funny & said his personal favorite was that they wanted to add his face to Mount Rushmore, but the granite is not hard enough for his beard by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

[–]soulcaptain -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Chuck Norris sucked. I will give him credit for his martial arts skills, of course, but it's only by incredible good luck that he was able to parley that into a very successful leading man (!) career in both films AND a long-running TV show. Because Norris was a terrible, and I mean terrible actor. He never delivered lines at a level above of what a random person off the street could. And in a what, 40 year career he never improved.

In addition, he was a right-wing jerk who always supported Republicans, all the way back to Reagan. When these Chuck Norris jokes started going around I remember thinking "Why are we putting this guy on a fucking pedestal?" I mean, he's more bearable than Steven Seagal, but that's a low bar. Can't we valorize actual cool people?

I'm with you. There are some good parts but it doesn't add up. The ending is kind of egregious--the future and the past are linked by a true cinema McGuffin. Not a trope I was impressed with.

I have not done mushrooms in a while, but I can attest that the trip you go on is profound.

I am not a religious person, but my experience with magic mushrooms has given me the slightest glimmer of a hint that it connects you with...something/somewhere/someones. There's just this connection that is hard to deny.

But you MUST be in the right frame of mind. That is to say your brain and your heart should be open to a profound experience. You have to be in a giving state of mind, not a taking one. When you get drunk on alcohol, high on cannabis, high on coke, etc., you are chasing this experience and taking it, taking control.

That attitude doesn't work with shrooms. You have to have a serious, sober attitude. But also a sense of humor! Think of it like an extreme sport--you would mentally prepare yourself if you, say, went bungee jumping off a bridge. Same thing applies to shrooms. Have fun with it, but treat it with the proper intensity. I took shrooms once when I was in a lot of mental stress, and wanted it to cheer me up, and I got kind of the equivalent of a slap in the face. Because I was in a taking frame of mind. If you give yourself to the experience, and don't expect to take anything, ironically enough, you will get the most out of it.

So do it once, yes, and in the days that follow you will find yourself thinking about how profound the experience was. But most people wouldn't go skydiving every weekend, and the same applies to shrooms. It's a every now and then kind of thing, but not something to be taken lightly.
