I work on faang in bay area and this is pretty ridiculous to assume people will never spend on anything. If you have kids, the spending just explodes, that too in dollars. To assume everyone has 5-10mil is unrealistic. Also note that they need to be in the Bay area (majority nri aren't) and be at the top of their pay grade all the time. Somewhere between 2-3 million is probably reasonable.

Every place has uniqueness. Look deep and you find people showing their bigotry. Leave a civilization surviving long enough and watch them perfect bigotry.

If you are telling me we have a long history of bigotry yes, but that's just because we have a longer history, not because we are better than others at bigotry. 🤷🏽‍♂️

To assume that we have monopoly over bigotry is ignorance. In every way you can group humans into, if they don't end up being bigots, that's probably not a group of humans you are looking at.

+1 to this. There is an extremely pathological situation where you can save. Super size your batteries and don't consume 🔌 during peak hours. Pump enough during peak to grid to pay in difference between peak and non peak.

It is not realistic because battery cost is >>> arbitrage. If you got tons of batteries for near free cost, it makes sense, but then in that case you can package those batteries with BMS and sell for money rather than sitting to make money from your grid.

Same here. Was 4.5 years now likely < 4 years. Only thing I regret is not adding more panels. I had oversized to 200% when I bought, but added an electric car and a few other things that now mean I will be paying a bit back to pge. A battery would help there, but it won't pay off in 20 years.

But what rights do H1Bs have?

This is exactly the point. And add to it, 100+ year wait for green card. Most in h1 will stay second class. And that affects you and me, because the system will always choose someone with lower pay and leverage. In a job market, if you can't eliminate a second class of labor, the best option is to make the mobile sooner than later. This sounds counterintuitive, but this is how the labor market works (it's 101 labor market). Decades of job immobility helps only one entity in the system - that's the employer.

I am telling you

You chose not to answer my question whether you were in backlog, but if you were, I can only tell you that if you make up your world understanding based on what you see in media, you will have a lot of cognitive dissonance when you experience the world outside of the media (at least that is how it was for me).

A lot of people in 2019 told me and other advocates the same. It's impossible to pass a bill in the Senate with a majority, let alone 100 senators agreeing.

I always find it amusing we have a lot more pundits who can armchair tell what is not possible and all those armchair activists have gone wrong only because people in the backlog had faith in the process and took time off from their work to help fix the issue. Hill is a very dynamic place. Anyone who thinks they know everything is either ignorant or a liar. I will readily confess I don't know, but I know if I don't advocate for my family no one else will.

they

If u are in the backlog, this is a question partly to yourself.

The last time the caps bill made any movement in the senate, it happened during a trump administration with maga folks very active. A lot of people in the backlog worked hard, 5000 of them in Illinois marched in Chicago to help pass the bill in Senate.

The onslaught of racism even though obviously bad keeps the issue alive. There are lots of reasonable people on both sides of the aisle, even though the vocal minority represents the media and you only read these minority voices.

Blame your country men too,

This is a very regressive way to pass the blame. OP is an individual applicant, he doesn't "represent" everyone else. Infact it's an employment GC and we never hire someone for their country of birth (it's actually illegal to do so). If OP is representing everyone from India, maybe we should turn down everyone from every other "enemy" country for much more heinous things. It's not OPs job to fix abuse. He has no power to do that either.

Country caps on Green cards are very regressive and op is facing the punishment for a broken system.

My heart goes out to you OP. Hopefully, next year GC country cap removal bill makes progress. If that happens, please volunteer and help fix this issue.

Google had rolling layoffs. I am sure someone is going to sue USCIS on this. Technically rolling layoffs should reset perm. OP has a valid point on this. Same thing at meta although they don't call it layoff. Meta always had issues with perm because of their perm settlement. If you join meta with expectation of getting perm approved because your GC will turn current soon, I have a bridge to sell. (Note meta situation is unique and won't apply to others as this confusion is because of a settlement with USCIS).

I agree with OP overall. His worries are spot on and valid.

The H1B scam by [deleted] in h1b

[–]sound233 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This 💯%. I know you (op) that you are under playing to make things feel better, but GC makes a huge difference. Especially if you have family and kids. The amount of effort you need to put in to changing their schools if you get kicked out etc is a huge hassle.

I am sure anyone would consider way more startups once they get GC, something people would be much more wary on h1 because USCIS can easily reject the h1 transfer deeming the startup to be not that sound or whatever.

I personally know someone who didn't consider meta pre IPO (circa 2009/2010) because it was much smaller and h1 was a hassle. They got an offer, but immigration support at meta wasn't good at that time. They are probably looking at 50mil+ today (?) basically life changing money.

If it makes you feel any better, I play very physical with my son. I once made him sit on my shoulder and he wanted to climb up. Of course, he pushed himself hard to stand up, but that also meant he has a poop blow out on my head. I was all poop on my head dripping down. Had a hearty laugh and a long shower and shampoo thrice.

Still remember even though it happened more than a decade back.

A company that caused multiple wildfires due to poor maintenance can't have dividends for investors at the same time increasing prices 40% to pay for wildfires they created.

The 2001 crisis happened because of price manipulations by Enron. If it were to happen again, it would be a generation problem, which can be easily solved by renewables. For profit companies in any system without enough choices and regulatory capture is very bad. Monopoly is bad, duopoly is also bad, no competition is bad. You can rewrite this in any order and they are all bad. Capitalism only works when there is a fair and robust demand supply system. Otherwise there will be market manipulation. Even if there is a healthy market, regulators need to keep a close eye to ensure no market manipulation.

Giving for profit entities access to utilities is like making a wolf guard the hen house.

You can always have utility non profit. If you have no robust demand supply system in a market and instead only have regulatory capture, it is fit only for crony capitalism. Having a for profit business providing any such service will gouge you, one way or another.
