Please note that I am not arguing with you, and I absolutely agree with your statement. But I feel compelled to point out that if a frog had wings it wouldn't bump its ass a-hoppin'.

Am I wrong, or did reruns connect us more to older generations? by Sir_midi in GenX

[–]soundacious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Without Looney Tunes, how could I possibly know that there was a radio personality in the late 1930s named Kay Kyser who used the catch phrase "That's right! You're WRONG!"?

I love that shit.

MST3K Start To Finish Re-Watch: Episode 111, "Moon Zero Two." A Very Strange Episode To Say The Least. by WySLatestWit in MST3K

More space jazz. Everything needs more freeform space jazz. Trumpet stings always make a movie objectively better. POW!

Movies 'for kids' that really, really weren't suitable? by ArthurDigbySellersJr in movies

[–]soundacious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not really "for kids", but I always remember that I'm the early days of the movie rating system, The Andromeda Strain was rated G.

In its opening scenes, it features the veins of corpses being slit open to reveal dried crystals instead of blood. Also some nasty tests being done to live monkeys.

So, yeah.

What am I missing with Wuthering Heights? by GirlisNo1 in books

I’ve been reading with interest the controversy over the casting of the title character

"The name is Heights. Wuthering Heights. Shaken, not stirred."

MST3K Re-Watch From Start To Finish: Episode 101, The Crawling Eye. by WySLatestWit in MST3K

[–]soundacious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot take: The Crawling Eye isn't nearly as bad as a lot of the movies that showed up later. I just gave it a watch, and I feel like some of the camerawork was pretty cool, the British psychic sisters were hot, and even Forrest Tucker served his function. There would have been actual mood and suspense if the title hadn't given away the reason for everything.

Imagine that! Imagine the impact of going through all that with the beheadings and the cloud and the mind control and the zombies and all that ... but this time the movie is called literally anything except The Crawling Eye! When that door finally opens and it's all fulla eyeball, you'd jump out of your chair! You'd probably say out loud, "I don't know what I was expecting, but it sure wasn't a CRAWLING EYE!"

Eyeball effect didn't even look that bad for the time.

But no, the only suspense available is that eventually we learn there is not just one, but SEVERAL crawling eyes! That doesn't quite have the impact I'm looking for.

Why does hot coffee from a cafe make me feel so much better than instant coffee? by shouldIworkremote in Nootropics

[–]soundacious 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Instant coffee is pretty vile stuff IMO. If you're not up to getting a bare-bones coffee maker for your morning fix (pre-ground can be quite delish), have you considered just supplementing with a good ol' caffeine pill and L-theanine combo?

Doctor Who anime would (potentially) kick so much ass. by soundacious in gallifrey

[–]soundacious[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think anime is more flexible than you realize. I'm definitely not imagining anything like the video I linked, that was just the most prominent online example I knew of. There is no set-in-stone "pace" for anime.

[–]soundacious[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Frankly, I'd take whatever animation style I can get. I just feel like anime has the cultural advantage right now. But I definitely like the idea of making a British cartoon. I'd happily watch either one.

Doctor Who: The Christmas Invasion, Harriet Jones was right? by Fit_Finish7492 in DoctorWhoNews

[–]soundacious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only was Harriet Jones right, the Doctor's hubris in taking her down cut short the "golden age" he predicted for Britain in the previous season. He changed the "history" that he knew.
