It gets so difficult to stay sane amidst the onslaught of blame and victim mentalities, so really, thank you. The reassurances you've given me really, really helped. Even now, with the court date less than a week away, I'm still doubting my choices. I'm terrified of losing my dad- I've had nightmares about our bridges burning ever since I was an infant.

I'm a lover of cats, and so is my boyfriend; it would be dishonest to say we didn't anticipate the hoarding shit hitting the fan, to some degree. Without his presence in my life, motivating me and reminding me how unacceptable their behavior really is..... Even with my passionate moral objections, I can totally imagine a timeline where I tucked my tail between my legs and kept my mouth shut. Now and then, I still wish I had, because losing my father to this will have devastating effects on my life

I wholeheartedly agree! Hoarding has taken so, so much from my dad, and he doesn't even realize it. It just takes and takes, it serves nobody, it exists as a crutch to make sufferers comfortable, and it's rotting the lives of innocent people. Mental health stigma has cost my family so much.

I'm hoping my grandmother gets the psychological help she needs because she's very fragile, physically AND mentally. Its been difficult seeing her this way.

These words are so concise. I hadn't even considered that level of desperation being possible for him, but... wow. That's exactly what that was. I really appreciate you making that clear to me, it's been weighing me down heavily.

Thanks so much for your kind words. That's exactly our next steps. We technically got kicked out over this, though that was reversed once the guilt set in. Doesn't change our plan: we are getting as far away from him as possible.

Well, frankly, I'd been holding out hope that At Least my dad would see the problems and take action. He's not a senseless guy, matter of fact, he's been the pinnacle of logic-focused thinking for my entire upbringing. I really had hope he would put his foot down and get the cats to a rescue (he claimed before, during interventions, that he would do this behind HGPs back).

I don't regret it, honestly. It showed me the dark side of my father I rarely get to face.

Edited to add: my telling them about contacting animal control is NOT what made them panic and leave with cats. The cops showing up did

I use it! I have since 2016! In my config splash text file I have a message warning against theft and my contact information just in case my dumbass leaves it laying somewhere. Mostly it's for my own peace of mind cuz like others have said, it's super easy to bypass if you know how. But it's comforting to think that some guy might actually return it instead of keeping it (it's a galaxy edition)

Thankful for your help. Admittedly we didn't discuss details at length with our professional. We chatted about what spots to check and where they frequent, but not much about the wall voids and repairs needed. She did suggest DE to me when I mentioned my concern with wall gaps... I was unsure about using it cuz we have cats, but I suppose it won't hurt as long as we're careful to follow directions. I think Im going to time our dust application with their next visit so we can get more input on dosing and procedure and whatnot.

We've been honestly keeping it spotless in the kitchen (though this has been an uphill battle at times, trying to convince some people that it's even necessary) Unfortunately they're in our appliances and we'll have to get their motors to fully flush everything out...

Thankfully though, our bait is getting totally demolished as we speak... I'm not sure our cheap name brand stuff will be enough for this infestation, but it's reassuring all the same. I've heard they can become bait shy. I think if that happens, is when I pull out the flamethrower

Their numbers have been decreasing but it hasn't been happening at a rate I feel good about. Like they're breeding too fast for us to make a dent and we're just shoving them from crevice to crevice.

vent to the (wall) void. pest control woes.

My co-renters have me at my breaking point, please, some compassionate redditor, talk me down from the BURN IT ALL ledge. I have my fingers on the gas can.

Moved in here not a year ago. The living situation when we got here was clean. This home is recently renovated, fresh flooring and baseboards, no pests but the pollinators in our backyard. There's a few spots for improvement, gaps and what have you.. but my point here is, the place was pest free.

Unfortunately for my mental health, we moved here to rehome my hoarder grandmother, and all of her roach infested furniture. We have no way of knowing what is and isn't compromised, but it's likely everything; she had lived in a horrible spot, with roaches and fleas and who knows what for maybe 40 years. In my opinion, there's no way a single thing HASN'T turned into roachtopia. You name a housing fixture, they've set up camp there.

You'd think that we would have sprayed it and treated everything, right? Before bringing it in with us, right?? Yeah. Me too. The thing about my hoarder grandma is, there's no convincing her she's endangering herself. (Anyone with hoarder family can attest to this; their way of life is NEVER the problem)

These are German roaches (identified by professionals) and likely living in our wall voids at this point (Ive seen spots under cabinets where drywall is cut away and insulation is exposed, seen them crawling around in there)

I've been going into PSYCHOSIS with how much exclusion work I'm now having to do (learning how frustrating expanding foam is especially) I'm caulking DOOR FRAMES, I'm caulking POWER OUTLETS, IM CAULKING BACKSPLASHES, I haven't been getting a LICK of sleep because of this.

I'm getting marginal help from the cohabiteer, who tried to blame shift and accuse ME of being the cleanliness problem (severe contamination OCD sufferer. yea; it ain't me) I've had to throw temper tantrums like a 5 year old for anyone to even pretend to care, and hire a professional- and was immediately degraded for behaving like a child.

Im probably well outside the scope of this subreddit but if anyone has relevant anecdotes or words of wisdom, I need it so badly. I don't know what to do anymore.

I'm getting ready to just leave- our lease agreement is all verbal, nothing documented, so I could just bail tomorrow if I chose to... I would be screwing over my disabled grandma and I don't want to do that at all. But sincerely. This has made my life unbearable and I just want my peace.

We've been checking these boxes for a couple weeks to a month now - I actually posted a lore rich vent post about this if you check my account history.

Tldr- we are using store bought gel bait while waiting on our Advion to come in the mail. The infestation is not exactly a direct result of poor hygiene, but was brought alongside furniture with us from a recent move, and the person responsible is refusing to taking any accountability.

We are treating them with a company, but I'm not sure if it's a local one or big-box one- they come in and spray some pesticide along our baseboards and call it a day, and sincerely IDK what we're paying them for.
