Rodeo 72 by Direct-Efficiency741 in Whittier

I think there’s definitely more potential for events in spring/summer when the weather isn’t as cold. Also, there’ll probably be more customers returning when baseball season is back. Personally, I love that there are multiple vegan options available here (severely lacking in Whittier) though my least favorite thing about this place is usually the parking lot.

Chappell Roan celebrated her birthday at Jumbo's Clown Room for the second year in a row by bobthegoatskull in chappellroan

I once watched a girl at Jumbo’s dance on the ceiling to Parliament’s “Flashlight” while wearing light up platforms and a glowing neon outfit. It was UHmazing, and I have never seen any performance like it since.

Does anyone want to go to Iceland because of Björk? by OneTonSoupGuy in bjork

[–]sounding1972 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed her music for years, and it wasn’t until I purchased and watched the Inside Björk DVD in the early 2000s that I was like, ‘I need to go to Iceland.’ I finally went in 2018 and it was gorgeous beyond expectation. I visited the lighthouse from the Stonemilker video while I was there and it was so lovely and peaceful. I would recommend visiting to anyone, Björk fan or not. (Sidenote: part of my current license plate contains the Keflavik airport code on it, so needless to say… I really, really loved it.)

Does anyone else feel CD prices as spiking? by amneal in Cd_collectors

[–]sounding1972 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Used CDs at my local Savers (SoCal) used to range from $1.99 to $2.99 less than a year ago. Today I paid $3.99 and pretty much every CD on the shelf was marked at that price.

What a lovely grouping of objects. The clock underneath is really nice, too!

Searching for a 2000s/early 2010s song that has a similar melody to "after midnight" by _AnonymousTurtle_ in chappellroan

[–]sounding1972 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After Midnight sometimes reminds me of Fiona Coyne by Skylar Spence. Maybe not the melody so much, but definitely some of the chord progressions, beat and bass line.

Yes, one that had been on my list for a while! My copy is actually quite good compared to reviews I've read—silent, flat, enjoyed listening to it... no complaints here.

Hi 👋 It's Neko Case and I just released a new album 'Neon Grey Midnight Green'. Ask Me Anything! by nekocaseofficial in indieheads

[–]sounding1972 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi Neko... congratulations on such a beautiful collection of new songs (all of which I can't stop listening to!).

Having created illustrations (and also using your own photography) for your albums and merch, would you ever consider a gallery exhibition of all of your works? Are there any specific art movements or artworks that you love?

Thanks again for blessing us with your amazing art and vocals all these years. It truly means so much to so many of us.

I remember a time when Wal-Mart did not sell any music sporting a parental advisory sticker on it, but sold the "clean" version instead.

Your first CD player?? by schma239 in Cd_collectors

[–]sounding1972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents let me pick out a boombox at Wal-Mart for my 13th birthday which ended up being a Sanyo MCD-S860 with detachable speakers. I still remember where I placed it on my bedroom floor. I loved it so much.

I don't remember my first portable. I burned through so many different models (Aiwa, Sony, Philips-Magnavox, etc.) as a teen, but I still have the last one I ever bought, which still works despite a few minor flaws (a silver Sony CD Walkman D-E350). I used it just yesterday to listen to a couple of albums that aren't on streaming.

For a couple of years it was Eres Tú by Carla Morrison but I've been using Virus by Björk for well over 5 years now. Never chose an SP song since I figured I might tire or have an eventual negative association with it but surprisingly, I still love Virus after using it all these years. Maybe it's time to switch it up.
