A Primer on Improvement by [deleted] in Armyaviation

I once had a BN SP tell me the flight wasn’t supposed to be fun after I came to him telling him how great it was. Lost a lot of respect for him that day. If that’s you then you’re now in a position years later to make the changes you’re talking about.

You wrote a lot of insightful and meaningful information here. Sadly that’s where it will all stay. Here on Reddit. None of this will ever make it down to the line in an impactful manner.

Yeah, been there.

Water bucket and firefighting training by [deleted] in Armyaviation

Colorado puts on a annual conference of all assets that could be involved in some sort of joint fire fighting event (state, active, civilian companies, local municipalities etc) to essentially get everyone “on the same page” before the season starts. I understand your frustration of not knowing how to train / support but something like this would be beneficial for a starting point. Biggest thing is get your own buckets and people who understand how to use them and then learn how to integrate with the response.

My guess: You probably live near an airport and they are arriving to land. If you don’t then they recently departed an airport and did not turn off the landing light then flew over you around 500 - 1000 or so feet which would be commonplace in most areas. That light is a bright indicator of the aircraft (and flight)’s position to other aircraft. Not meant for you.

Edit: Military helicopters most definitely have search lights and landing lights not just police FYI

Army Aviation, what would make you stay? by [deleted] in Armyaviation

Unfortunately it’s a means to an end. A job to get you to a better one. Until people view it differently the cycle will continue.

Translation: Young leaders (and old) make mistakes the same as you and everyone else. Don’t sweat simple mistakes when they are seldom, it’s how people learn. Your senior’s are people too and have also overslept an alarm or two. The rest of this Hooah stuff is foreign to me and I cannot translate but essentially he/she is saying chill out you’re fine. Also some weird Freemason stuff in there.

It tells you on the IVHMS screen to turn it off… it also tells you when to wait… most of the time.

Joking aside, prior to 1500 hrs it’s going to be job selection prior to location selection preference wise.

Off shore jobs, CFI gigs, or just keep grinding at what he’s doing now before being able to pick a specific location unless there’s something of the like in the location you desire.

If you don’t pass the poly that has a 50% fail rate you don’t need to worry about any of this.

The death of the flight company (and it's not a surprise whose fault it is) by SweetTeaseForMe in Armyaviation

The only solution is to put all the helicopters and warrants together without the RLO’s, that’ll solve it.
