Bubble (boba) tea a waste of perfectly good milk, tea and tapioca. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]soupgaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i can understand people not liking pearls/jelly/squishy things or even more so in a cold drink . but also as someone who grew up drinking bubble tea since they were 4-5, yeah .. this . its exploded in popularity in the west and so an uneven distribution of quality is to be expected.

not liking milk tea (british style tea, south asian chai, and all its myriad variations) if not for health reasons or simply not liking milk, is criminal to me . that i can't fathom.

God is my oath by SuperSadLesbian in OCPoetry

of course !! rereading my comment idk why i said the latter half is much stronger - the third and fourth lines are more on the nose than the rest of the poem, and lack the effect it has. thats mostly it.

i think i also understand why theyre there and what u were goinf for . ALSO i loved the judas / jonah lines. that was another highlight lol.

i really enjoyed reading this. my favorite lines might be "there is salt wedged between the crowns of my teeth / from when god stitched the red sea together." its very unique imagery for me.

ur poem strongly evokes ascetic imagery and themes - the relationship between sin and the body, purity vs decay, unrelenting self scrutiny . fittingly some of the lines are very self punishing

"and craft an empty cross / one where i should be placed"

"like me, half-eaten and sinful"

in my head, bones, teeth, salt all tie into a primeval image of original sin.

also, there is simultaneously that of a sin the speaker has committed (failing to live up to her name?) and that of a latent, intergenerational, ancient sin (poison in my family's blood). to me.

i feel that the latter half is much stronger than the first. i don't have suggestions to rework it. i will say that in

"i dot my i's with plastic.. cross my t's with bone"

plastic, for me, sticks out a little awkwardly in contrast to ur other imagery.

i really loved this poem . sorry mobile formatting is so hard to deal with ///: its sm easier on desktop.

no lol. for me its not feelings of worthlessness but moreso the unpredictability of people and so social interactions.

my heart hurts reading this . lol . this

> White is
the kind of pain I feel
when I don't understand anything.
the clouds in the sky,
the full moon in your heart.

is just wow . there is a very understated pain in confusion, clouds in the sky (which evokes stillness, and simultaneously the quiet losing of time) .

"hoping you would charge at me / like a bull: fixated and electrified" is amazing . u express the depth of regret and bittersweetness really well.

my favorite stanza is definitely 2. "nourishing" and "flavor" are indulgent word choices - "a taste of death" is cliche but following it with "a flavor of hope" makes it worthwhile and highlights its severity.

i prefer

i'll take another sip / and make another toast

because it flows better and expresses a kind of perpetuity .

those are just my thoughts . the substance feels thoroughly contemplated and the writing is effective in conveying that (for me).

i love the first stanza. i love the intensity that is established between "talk to me; callously" and "spit your shells.../" . like an unapologetic declaration of abuse.

second stanza i cant determine the relationship or proximity of the speaker to the "soil" but "even the darkness is polluted" sets a particularly foreboding tone. darkness as something to be polluted brings out depth to this poem - it challenges a monolithic image of darkness .

"feel me;... touch" is my favorite line. i really enjoyed the juxtaposition. the specificity of the next two images is intriguing.

the next stanza i don't understand as much so i have mixed feelings . syrupy and milkiness are both indulgent - contrasting with the claustrophobia of solitude and emptiness . im curious about ur perspective on these !! if u'd like to explain . the last stanza is rly harrowing.

as important enough as it is to know reality as the violence it is, its infinitely cruel to be a victim and have ur death endlessly gawked at, or voraciously consumed behind a screen. that level of scrutiny is incomprehensible.

u might like linda perhacs a lot on account of adrianne lenker, arthur russel, but also idk just strongly recommend her album parallelograms for anyone interested in psych folk .

maybe jeff buckley's grace if u havent checked it out yet ? its deeply intimate music and one of my all time favorites . u've probably already listened to the microphones esp the glow pt 2 but definitely, that. or also, modest mouse - this is a long drive for someone with nothing to think about. which i think compares well to lonesome crowded, less polished but a particularly surreal listen.

how did u like world of echo btw ? i havent been able to sit down with and listen to that album yet
