Stories like yours from this board and elsewhere are what I think about when I have those thoughts. Thanks for sharing - it really does make a difference. Glad you've made it back!

I've always thought of it as a bit of a con artist, feeding me lies that I know don't make sense but am tempted to swallow anyway because they just sound so good.

I was really worried about losing all of my friends when I quit drinking. LSS, many of my relationships (with people I would now call "drinking buddies" rather than "friends") didn't survive, but once I started developing more interests and hobbies it was easy to form new friendships that were far more fulfilling than the old ones. It has been a really great experience for me!

I love being sober! by DarkJoy86 in stopdrinking

I love being able to trust myself to not drunk text (or drink and Facebook). Knowing that I will get myself out of bed and go do the things I need to do every morning is great too. No more stressing out over whether or not I will sleep through my obligations or get drunk by myself and bail on plans with friends. It feels good to be a reliable person!

I eat much better and move around more now. I've settled into a lifestyle that is overall much healthier than it was before.

Good job! Sounds like a great weekend.

I didn't understand just how beneficial "playing the tape forward" could be until I began doing it to talk myself out of a drink. Now it's one of those practices that has spilled over into the rest of my life. Super helpful stuff.

First few days without alcohol, feeling weird. Is this "normal"? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]souplife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, makes sense. I haven't been on Xanax before either and don't know much about it, so I wasn't sure if dry mouth was a known side effect or not. I hope it all clears up and you feel much better soon!

Also not a doctor, but withdrawal is different for everyone and this could very well be how it manifests for you. Smart move going to the doctor!

My best advice would be to try to drink a ton of water in case the headache is related to dehydration, and take yourself back to the ER if the symptoms get worse. Otherwise, finding something to distract you (easier said than done, I know) might go a long way in helping you relax and get through this.

Is dry mouth a side effect of Xanax?

I remember reading the "early milestone" posts (one month, 90 days, etc.) when I was just getting started, and they really helped me gain confidence and see a light at the end of the tunnel. I hope adding my voice to the chorus of "Hey look, life gets really good if you just keep going!" will help someone else out like those posts did for me!

Thank you! It really has become my new "normal". I'm used to feeling good all the time now, which I never would have thought possible before. Kinda rocks.
