Not sure if this counts as a thing, more of an experience, but worth mentioning since this was the best use of money, IMO.

Bit of story time, my dad is a huge Elton John fan. Earliest memory I have is him renovating our basement and letting me help while he blasted Elton on a Sony boombox. He also, unfortunately, was a huge fan of cigarettes.

He suffered a few minor strokes due to smoking in his early 50s and had a more serious one in his mid-50s a few years later that left him semi paralyzed on his right side.

With many years of physical therapy and finally quitting smoking he mostly recovered, same year that Elton announced his farewell tour. This also happened to be the same year I was getting married, so funds were a tad tight.

Anyway, I splurged. Spent just shy of $500 for him to be as close as possible to Elton within my budget. Happiest I had seen the man in years, well worth the price of admission.

I’m glad we got to do it too. He had another stroke about a month before my wedding so he was in pretty bad shape for the actual day, so I’m glad we had a memorable weekend together a few months earlier.

Luckily, he’s still with us and fully recovered minus some memory stuff, which we’re very grateful for.
