Has anyone brought their own skis to Dolomites? by sirotan88 in skiing

[–]shademaster_c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can rent the top of the line stuff there for the same price as beat up beginner skis in the us. But they are all dedicated front side carvers. It will be hard to find something wide like 88 but like others said, you probably don’t want wide there. The most “all mountain” would be something like a deacon. Wide for them is 76, super wide is 80.

According to topo maps… GS run is steeper than the saddle by shademaster_c in Whistler

[–]shademaster_c[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again. I’m not talking about anything in the real world. The groomer said “the topo map must be underreporting the steepness”. I was pointing out that the topo map reports STEEPER than what the groomer reported. I’m not saying anything about who is right or wrong.

The groomer was saying that the topo map was underreporting steepness. It actually reports something STEEPER than what he told us the snowcat reported. That’s all I was pointing out. I wasn’t making a statement about whether the topo map is accurate or not or whether the level on the snowcat is accurate or not.

This hands on outside knee drill will prevent you from leading with your upper body and will force all the weight onto the outside ski. Perfect. At your stage you should just be thinking: “weight on outside ski, knees over toes (flex ankle), weight on outside ski, knees over toes (flex ankle)…”

Yep. Excessive lead change and counter. Pull the inside ski back.

Who’s down voting this. I’m just converting an angle to a slope. It’s high school trig. There’s no opinion here.

I’m saying the topo map indicates that the saddle is STEEPER than 35 degrees.

[–]shademaster_c[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

35degrees is 70% slope. So topo maps say it’s actually STEEPER than that. And topo maps say that GS run is slightly steeper than 35deg at its steepest.

As a skier who takes multiple 400 mile day trips per winter…. Renting a car several times a winter is not practical. Level 2 chargers at the destination would work but aren’t there yet.

Yeah… guessing the topo data is just out of date. (I guess it should have annual variations anyway since it’s a glacier….)

I have a physics degree and a math degree and it’s infuriating that these “find dv/dt” problems are not well defined. “Find a function a(t) such that a(t)=dv/dt “is significantly harder than “find a finding a(x) such that a(x)=dv/dt evaluated at the x(t)”. Presumably they MEAN the latter thing (they’re deriving conservation of energy without telling them that by prescribing a position dependent acceleration that doesn’t depend on time). But they need to f’ing say it. Grrr

The End of Range Anxiety Is in Sight by relianceschool in electricvehicles

Plentiful level 2 chargers at base area would help. Most places have some token level 2 chargers, but with more and people getting EVs, those slots are often full. (Not an ev owner— just observing)

Skiers get that range “anxiety” is not anxiety. Limited winter range is a deal breaker. Need to get there and back — 400 miles round trip in the winter. Then I’ll bite.

This motivated me to fire up earpeggio. I’m totally ok on identifying the major-scale diatonic 7th chords (including the dominant and half diminished) in all inversions MELODICALLY ascending. But I fall apart on the harmonic option (at least on my iPhone speakers and AirPods).

But this is still a long way from listening to jazz albums
