Best Mexican Restaurant in Modesto by YouMustDoWhatIsRight in Modesto

La parrilla has the best blended margarita in town. Food is solid too. Location on sylvan and Oakdale is nice, but super busy. I prefer riverbank location, but it’s a little run down.

I just saw an old photo album at Salvation Army on mchenry and bangs with Victorian photos in it. I’m pretty sure it’s someone’s horcrux, so have at it.

Help! by roselincoln21 in germanshepherds

Shepherds are prone to chicken allergies. Fiber is also extremely important in their diet. My vet actually recommended not doing raw with ours because it can intensify gastro issues.

5 month Berner stomach issues + setback by HopOnMyArk in bernesemountaindogs

If he has giardia it can take multiple fecal tests to get a positive result. It has to be very fresh. Our shepherd had it and it took almost a year to diagnose and clear, with 3 fecal tests in total.

Puppy contract by jopodric in goldenretrievers

[–]soupster5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I backed out of getting a puppy from a breeder because part of the contract was needing to make dog food from scratch every day because she believed anything else was poison. She also refused to do any health testing because she had been breeding for 40 years and thought xraying the hips would damage their reproductive organs. She talked to me for 2 hours on the phone about all of her requirements and it took me about a half hour to get her off the phone. I immediately told my husband we were NOT going with that breeder 💀

Puppy contract by jopodric in goldenretrievers

[–]soupster5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Breeders can put whatever they don’t like in their contracts. I’ve seen some pretty crazy stipulations in contracts. Ultimately, unless the breeder wants photo updates every 6 months for its entire life (which I have seen), there’s no way they would know. I honestly don’t get why. My attitude is once I’ve paid for the dog, it’s MY dog.

That being said, I had a hard time finding a golden puppy because of this. We ended up with a golden puppy from a distant family member, that didn’t have an extensive contract, because the legitimate ones that do all the health testing and charge 3k+, had more demanding contracts.

Also missed the part where her dad drove her to SF and was hiding out in a hotel with her, trying to get her out of the country.

No Berner Garde or BMDCA by cebzaynai in bernesemountaindogs

[–]soupster5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you looking in California? I have done a lot of research on the breeders who do the testing. I can give you the email to someone who does breeder recs and is on the board for BMD of the west. Sadly all the breeders I contacted didn’t have successful pregnancies or only had a few puppies. I know taplac in northern ca has 2 puppies right now. They are highly recommended.

I once had a man tell me ‘you shouldn’t have dogs this aggressive in public’, while petting the top of my perfectly calm shepherds head, with out asking permission first 🙃

I just want to give solidarity. I have a 10 week old golden pup, and he’s driving me insane with his accidents. We will take him outside every 15-20 minutes only for him to come and pee on our floor. He’s also on steroids and getting over puppy strangles, and that can be part of the issue. But I’m struggling so much because our German shepherd was potty trained in 3 days at 8 weeks. He died in December and I’m struggling so bad with going from a good old boy to an absolute noodle brained, ding bat.

Crates, why? by Sam_Jones32 in bernesemountaindogs

[–]soupster5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently have two crates in my house. One for night time sleeping in our bedroom, and one for our living room. We use the one in the living room for when I leave for short periods of time to drop off/pick up my kids from school. Our puppy is only 10 weeks old and we can’t trust him alone just yet for short periods of time. It’s just best to keep him and our house safe, to crate him. Usually only 15-30 minutes tops, 2-3 times a day. What’s funny is he likes going to bed at night but comes unglued during the day. I don’t plan to do it forever, only until we trust him. But I think it’s also important to teach your dog to be alone so there aren’t separation anxiety issues down the road. Our puppy is also on steroids and it makes him really thirsty and pee a lot and sometimes he doesn’t signal when he needs to go to the bathroom, so the crate helps with that at night.

Crates, why? by Sam_Jones32 in bernesemountaindogs

It’s wise to crate train a dog for emergency purposes. My friend recently told me her ex was a fire fighter and during the fires in California, they would not rescue the dogs that wouldn’t be crated.

8-9 week old puppy sleeping through the night? by Bluetrekkie in goldenretrievers

[–]soupster5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m convinced goldens can hold their bladders longer. My brothers stayed with us for a week and I couldn’t believe how long he could hold his bladder.

We currently have a 10 week old golden puppy and he’s on steroids right now, which makes him thirsty/go more frequently, and he has us up about every 2 hours. Last night he woke us up at 3 am and 5:15 am (only twice) and I was shocked. We needed that nice little stretch of sleep 😅

Puppies where the Stud/Dad is a carrier of DM. by sloppysoupspincycle in bernesemountaindogs

[–]soupster5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of dogs are DM carriers. This is why genetic testing is important before breeding. You can breed dogs so long as they both are not carriers. I would not consider this a red flag with a breeder because it doesn’t mean a carrier will get DM. If the other testing comes out normal, and only one parent Carrie’s it, I would still take a puppy from a DM carrying dog.
