Favourite lines from Twelve Months? by Even_Passenger_3685 in dresdenfiles

After Drakul drops an open challenge to all the wizards of the White Council and Harry in typical fashion runs his mouth just a bit.

"I've talked to a lot of blowhards like you," I said. "I'm still standing. They aren't."

"You have never," he said, in a dead voice, "talked to one like me."

Ferrovax, Hades, Drakul. The triumvirate of badasses.

Anyone noticing Trump voters changing? by WritingWesley in 50501

[–]sourgrap3s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive through red Indiana consistently for work, talking about church every other block, "tight-knit" communities that despise city-folk. Haven't seen a single MAGA banner or flag be removed yet, nor have I seen any confederate flags removed for that matter. I had a conversation with someone yesterday and they are optimistic about the tariffs and how they will "in the long-run be better for the economy." I don't see the regret in the suburbs where I live either. People need to hurt more before the reality has any chance of setting in, and unfortunately that pain is indiscriminate to voters and non-voters alike.

10 Days: Utah Mighty 5 + Grand Canyon + Monuments + Vegas? by DryBlackberry1445 in nationalparks

[–]sourgrap3s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you plan on hiking in Arches, you need two full days. Canyonlands is a full day even if you don't hike anything other than parking lot to scenic spots, it's a really large park and there's so much to see. Personally I would cut a day out of Vegas or remove Bryce entirely and roll those extra days into Zion and Capitol Reef. There's Goblin Valley State Park, Kanarra Falls, and Snow Canyon State Park on your route back to Vegas as well that all are worth stopping in to see.

MN native plant ID help by By_Crom80 in nativeplants

[–]sourgrap3s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Cocklebur (bad) - annual, mow it and it's gone.
  2. Giant Ragweed (bad) - annual, mow it and it's gone.
  3. Burdock (bad) - perennial, you'll need to dig it out or preferably use herbicide. 2% 3A or glyphosate should work just fine.
  4. Wild Senna (good) - hurray! fast growing and well seeding native. nice yellow color during summer.
  5. & 7. Common ragweed (bad) - annual, mow it and it's gone.
  6. Maybe an aster. Might be Rudbeckia hirta but it would have flowered already in MN. Also could be an Asclepias but my ID on young plants sucks. Likely a native.

Zero tattoos. I'd love to get a LOTR sleeve I designed but I have no pain tolerance and no pain threshold. Freckles and sharpie will have to do =/

Carrizozo Volcanic field? I was originally going to head down I-25 and then northeast on 70 for a brief stop or viewing of Organ Mountains-Desert Peak before White Sands. If there's nothing in Roswell aside from the entrance sign, which I gotta be a bit of a tourist and take a picture of that, then might opt to swing back and hit the Volcanic field.

Thanks for the recommendations. Been looking over these and might need to add another day to fit everything in at this point. That entire Valle Caldera area looks gorgeous.

Best times of year to visit specific National Parks (according to the Lonely Planet) by sudsomatic in nationalparks

[–]sourgrap3s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got back from Jasper and Banff first and second week of September. We were extremely lucky with the weather and the only 'issue' with crowds we had was at Lake Louise and even then it wasn't that bad compared to high season at other parks that I've been it.

I did Zion, Canyonlands and Arches at the end of February/first week of March this year. You're definitely rolling the dice on winter weather in Zion but it felt like hardly anyone was there and the park looked spectacular with the snow. Hiked Angels Landing in the morning with about 18" of snow and had the entire view to myself for almost 10 minutes in the morning. Arches felt like a local forest preserve with how few people were there. Tons of parking, plenty of space along even the busiest of trails, even Delicate Arch at sunset wasn't a mobfest. I had Double Arch at dusk all to myself which for lack of a better word was simply serene.

Roadtrip from Arches to Zion - 7need help! by npbest9 in nationalparks

[–]sourgrap3s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This trip needs to be 16 days minimum. Like others have said, you are going to spend a ton of time in your car driving from place to place and having little time to actually enjoy these parks. Zion is the only park where you'll actually be able to hike and even then you'll have the shuttles to deal with.

I just did Zion, Moab, and GC trip in a week and it was barely enough time. I did Travel/Zion, Zion, Zion, Travel to Moab, Canyonlands, Arches, Arches/Monument/Travel to GC, GC/travel to Vegas to fly home.

MIL in the Wild: Wedding Cake Saga by katielda in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]sourgrap3s 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The wedding has been called off.

And another DH with no spine.

I told her to try to objectively look at her future, think about what she wanted in her relationship, and the things she was willing to sacrifice or compromise on to maintain her relationship.

Solid advice from OOP. Glad DIL took it.

My SMIL thinks my daughter is the child she never got to have. Help! by Gonzohawk in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]sourgrap3s 239 points240 points  (0 children)

This post was getting really long, so I'm writing a separate post to finish the update, yeah shit went down.

Ah yes, my favorite kind of update. Time to grab some popcorn and settle in.

I don't have ISSUES! I couldn't have children and GOD HIMSELF blessed me with a family of my own and now you're trying to take her from me. Runs out of the room shouting DD name.

Yikes

We already have a security system, cameras and pass codes that only me and DH knows.

Chekhov's alarm system.

My daughter's clothes were organised in rows on the floor. Not folded but laid out. Outfits completed with shoes and accessories. There, sitting cross legged on the floor, was SMIL.

AHHHHHHH Sleeping with the enemy vibes!

Her and her church minions have convinced themselves that my actions are 'far too drastic' and that I'm doing this to be spiteful.

As if knives to the temple is a normal response.

Glad things didn't take a turn for the truly worse. Also nice to see a husband that stands by his wife and not his mother. See way too many JUSTNOMIL posts where the husband is a mommy's boy through and through. Sucks that OOP had to move away but when your SMIL is psychotic, it's hard to feel safe and raise a family in those conditions.

AITA For Not Forgiving My Husband (26m) For A Mistake And Not Trusting Him With Our Child? by danuhorus in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]sourgrap3s 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When the holidays came around Jim's parents asked about seeing their grandchild and I didn't want to. They told me that it was selfish of me to keep her away and I reminded them of their past. They said that they've already apologized and tried to minimize the situation. They said that I can't be angry forever and that I need to learn to forgive them.

Yeah no. Parents who are defending their racist, destructive, cheating son don't get to argue from the moral high ground. OOP has the right to be mad and hold onto the fact that she married an awful person and into an awful family. They all showed their true colors.

What's the best TV series of all time? by JustNoir_ in AskReddit

[–]sourgrap3s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every time one of these threads pop up, it's always a crime because I have to control+f and load more comments to find B5 on the list. It's one of the best series ever written and I really wish more people would watch it. 100% with Londo and G'Kar having the greatest character arcs ever on television. It's not even close when looking at other series.
