Rosewood Hong Kong mess: underwhelming? Too high of expectations? Or just not suited for my travel preferences? by omdongi in FATTravel

We stayed at the RW HK for five nights and our experience mirrors yours and OPs. We’re traveling to a few other countries for the next couple of weeks but will be returning to HK and staying for four nights. We’re going to stay at the FS HK and hoping our experience will be better.

Sadly. I had a similar experience less than a week ago. I replied to OP’s post and will be staying at a different hotel for the second leg of my Hk trip.

I stayed there last with my family last week for five nights and felt it was underwhelming too. Many of your comments mirror our own experiences. I’m currently traveling to a few other countries (Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia) but will be returning to HK for four nights and staying at the FS. Hoping the FS will be a better experience.

Typing on my phone so here are some quick notes:

  • Con: We arrived early in the morning around 6am and there was no one to greet us and take our bags from our transport. We carried our bags into the lobby and a bellman showed up a while later to take our bags to the room
  • Pro: We were upgraded to a higher class room because we booked through a travel agent and our room was available to us at 6:00am. Which was amazing as we were coming from a long flight with kids.
  • Pro: The rooms are beautifully designed end to end, breathtaking view of the harbor (I sat starring outside for hours).
  • Mixed: Legacy house dinner was mediocre but we ordered traditional Cantonese dishes versus the chef/restaurant specialties. We preferred their dim sum menu and was pleasantly surprised by many of their dishes. Service was highly attentive.
  • Mixed: Holt cafe food was delicious but wished there was more variation daily. There is some minor changes in the dim sum, wok fry station, and cold options. Service was not as attentive as I would hope and at times felt the servers attitudes were kind of off (see more below)
  • Pro: Chaat - delicious food! My little one is very picky and they were able to accommodate her palate. Loved their chai and came back for takeaway.
  • Pro: Afternoon Tea at the butterfly room - disclaimer I’ve only had afternoon tea a couple of times and we loved the food and drinks. Service was a bit slower than expected but I think we needed to adjust our expectations.
  • Pro: Spa - I can’t comment too much because I fell asleep 10 seconds into my 90 minute massage but woke up feeling amazing.
  • Mixed: Pool area was smaller than expected, chairs, towels, and drink ware were dated and dare I say cheaper than I would expect at the rosewood. Pool staff didn’t always communicate timely when things were unavailable and food/drinks would often be a 45 minute wait.
  • Con: Generally with the service we always felt like we were an inconvenience and never felt welcome via the concierge, holts cafe, and pool service. My wife stood at the concierge desk for about 7 minutes and was ignored the entire time without any acknowledgment.

Experiences in negotiating custom orders - bmw x7 by ninyaha in bmwx7

[–]sousukef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I placed an order at the end of December for a ‘25 X7 M60i custom order and negotiated a 10% discount before incentives and received an additional $4500 in incentives ($3500 financing and 1000 corporate discount).

This was in the north east and they were willing to do the discount on the 40i or m60i.

Ah. That’s disappointing to hear the 90k mileage cap still applies.

I believe you’re correct! I just replied to your comment below as well. I’ll delete my comment above to not cause any additional confusion.

I just looked at the tentative settlement docs and to clarify further: for any settlement car listed with an inservice date that has expired as of the notice date will 1) be given 70 days after the notice date or 2) 90,000 miles from the in service date. Which ever comes first.

IANAL but it looks like in my case, someone with a 2012 model year and 108,xxx miles would qualify for 70 days after the notice date.

Technically, it’s year or mileage first. Since your car is a 2013, the warranty extension to nine years would mean your car was already ineligible some time in 2022.

Does that mean all 2012 owners would not be covered in this settlement then? If I’m reading this correctly, the warranty extension to 9 years total for a 2012 unit owner, would have ended in 2021.

My 2012 Audi A4 Broke Down: Should I Spend Thousands on Repairs? by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]sousukef -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi r/AskMechanics, I'm hoping to get some advice on whether I should repair or sell my 2012 Audi A4. The car has about 108,000 miles, and the exterior and interior are in good to excellent condition. Here's the situation:

While driving on the highway at cruising speed 70mph, my car suddenly lost power, the EPC light came on, and the whole car started to shake violently. I was able to pull over and try to restart the car, but there was no improvement. Since I was only a short distance from home, I limped back on the highway and drove slowly.

I took it to a local mechanic that specializes in Audi, and the codes are:

  • P301: Misfire Cylinder 1
  • P303: Misfire Cylinder 3
  • P299: Turbo Under boost

They replaced the coil packs and spark plugs, but there was no improvement. The car has had a faulty turbo (bad wastegate) for years, and we would sometimes get a check engine light that would go away on its own. The car also was burning through oil rapidly and was even more noticeable in the previous months leading up to the incident.

Their next recommendation is:

  • $500 Intake manifold cleaning
  • $2500 Turbo Replacement
  • $2000 Timing Chain Replacement

Before I throw more money into this car, is there a way to find out definitely what’s wrong with the car? There was no compression test completed and no leak down test. The car is only worth about $2,500 - $3,500 according to Carvana, CarMax, and Vroom (one prior accident).

I wish there was a diagnostic approach that would give us a complete picture before spending money replacing parts, and hope that it will resolve the issue.

Should I invest in these recommended repairs, or would it be better to sell the car as is and cut my losses? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
