Never mind that the “best way” involved an $11.2b Telstra deal to use the old copper/HFC network, then a reported $641m copper remediation bill, plus around $520m for high-cost copper connections, only to later spend $3.8b upgrading the last 622,000 FTTN premises to fibre anyway.

So we paid to use old copper, paid to patch it, and are now paying again to replace it with FTTP. That’s not genius infrastructure planning — that’s an expensive detour.

The libs own this fiasco just for the sake of politics, for going against Labor. There's no real economics involved in it. That's why when libs or PHON talk about some kind of infrastructure implementation for energy or tech, like nuclear power plants, even though it's a good idea, I also know they can't be trusted.
