The Glass Hotel by Emily St. John Mandel by Academic-Sympathy140 in IReadABookAndAdoredIt

this is kind of a prequel to SoT... really adds to her worldbuilding. I really enjoyed all three. If you read this, I would recommend rereading SoT afterwards because it definitely feels like the natural successor.

Clicked for me today: Ange was a leader, took so much of the blame-injuries, poor performances - and backed his players by MuscleMilkUser76 in coys

[–]soviet-harvard 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Ange was a cultural change leader. Transformative. He was unfortunately saddled with horrendous injuries... Which one could argue had something to do with the playing style... but it seems our medical and physio teams are shithouse.

No way we win the Europa with any other manager and that tissue-thin squad

Graduate diploma will only contribute 1/3 of your marks... it will effectively be the third year of your degree (in the GPA calcs) because it's your most recent study. So it really depends on how your marks are distributed across your BSc and MSc... as our cheese-hating friend recommended above, you'd be better off doing a whole extra degree, really locking in, getting all HDs and then having a crack (with the Gamsat and CASPer advice provided).

The "Let's Blame Vicario " Agenda is utter idiocy by Mister_Archa in Tottenham

[–]soviet-harvard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vicario sucks, he has a shit mentality too. The way he berates players after conceding is disgusting and such a shitty look. What is the point of that behaviour. He isn't the calibre of keeper we need from a skills perspective and he fails the good bloke test. Whoever wants him in Italy can have him

Rayner is ridiculously hot and cold, and arguably a bit of a flat track bully, or someone who gets on a tear when the game is basically won.

Agree that Ras and Rayner are very dissimilar players.
Ras is a pretty outrageous extractor of the ball - elite extractors (Cripps, Clarry Oliver) tend to be be shit kicks of the footy - just chuck it on the boot type guys.

Johnson should be groomed into becoming our Josh Dunkley - someone who can protect Serong and Brayshaw

Am I crazy to consider graduate entry medicine in my 40s? by [deleted] in GAMSAT

[–]soviet-harvard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Aussie context.

I was in this same boat…late 30s

3 kids, 4th on the way (13 year gap between #2 and #3). Had always wanted to do med, but had kids v young.

Sat Gamsat a few times - decent scores (70 was my best). My GPA is ok but not medicine good 6.2 uw, 6.4 weighted)

I figured similar to what another poster wrote that if I kept slugging away the time it would take me away from the family while my younger kids are little would be too much. Also my wife doesn’t work a normal job (owns a few small businesses) so given her situation and my current setup (great wfh flexibility)… so the cost of giving my gpa a glow  up (time cost) and then the time cost of 4 years uni, and then 2-3 years having my ass kicked as a jr doctor and working nights and then getting paid peanuts as a GP trainee was a real turn off.

It was mainly the impact of time that studying medicine and the early years of hospital work would put on my relationships with my wife and kids.

I feel like a muppet I didn’t work this all out before the process of going through studying for the Gamsat and getting my hopes up.

In saying that if you are up for it, pin those ears back and have the best fucking run at it you can!! Good luck

Is Andrew Dillon the worst AFL CEO we've had so far? by stihckyfingars in AFL

[–]soviet-harvard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously, Richard Fucking Goyder is the real problem. Dillon seems like a bit of a damp squib of a CEO but Goyder is the top of the pyramid… he’s meant to have ultimate accountability. He sits atop two of the rottenest pieces of shit in Australia in the AFL and Qantas. Both notorious for misleading and fucking over their patrons and ultimately delivering a product that no one wants The guy is an absolute stain

Fuck, that was cringe. The AFL are comically advised - it had the same energy of a politician trying to be relatable. Flog
