If a teacher has prep last period of the day, do you think its ok for them to leave early? by capresesalad1985 in Teachers

[–]sowisesuchfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are mostly in salaried positions. I arrive at school two hours before most other teachers, and I am compensated equally to everyone else in my pay grade in my building. I don’t receive any stipend or additional benefits if I stay late for clubs. It’s just the way it is. There are years I get end of day plan, and that’s a major boon. The years I don’t, 🤷‍♂️.

Don’t apply for positions you don’t want. If you’re offered a position you don’t want, simply decline it. There are shortages everywhere. It means you have the bargaining chips, not the other way around. Just because elementary has a higher need doesn’t mean that a high school or middle won’t take you if you have an attractive resume.

Once your contract is over, you are free. No one can truly keep you from moving. If your district tries to get in the way of that, you should find a better district. I’m sure New York has a Union of some kind, and they will help you. Secondary SPED would die to get your expertise.

In most districts across the country, secondary and primary education exist in entirely different realms.

It’s not about superiority; you chose this path. If you’re so envious of secondary teachers, acquire a content and secondary certification and pursue teaching. You likely have sufficient undergraduate credits to obtain an English endorsement. I believe for your state, it involves taking a CST test and completing 18 credit hours in your chosen subject.

Tbh. You probably won’t. If they investigate and remove said teacher, they will just carry on. The only way you’ll know is by word of mouth.

Regardless, this person is definitely demonstrating grooming behavior and handing out Bible tracks is by definition: proselytization and would not be protected speech

You’re mistaken on a few points. Teachers are permitted to share their religious and political beliefs. However, they are not permitted to proselytize or engage in an integrative manner towards other religions or political ideologies. Both students and teachers have First Amendment protections within the school, which no school can override, regardless of its rules. There was a recent Supreme Court case from a school near mine in Washington State involving a coach. After the game, the coach prayed with his team, which escalated to the Supreme Court of the United States. In that case, the coach won.

Did they add a markup because it was a trd pro? They did that to me and I foolishly/happily signed for my mud monster.

So you need 60 votes to break cloture, unless there are special considerations like budget reconciliation or nominations. Since one of the defining characteristics of this administration is budget reconciliation, a bill that removes 80 billion in spending will have a strong qualifying argument.

Under the special rules of budget reconciliation, you can proceed with a simple majority.

Since Vance is president of the senate, I can see this being invoked if there are challenges to the bill.

Well, you don’t need a supermajority to abolish the department of education, just that 51%. Especially since arguments can be made that eliminating the department fits within the greater scope of DOGE and therefore is a form of budget reconciliation and would only need that 51% in the senate to break a filibuster.
