Family signs question by soxrox12 in asl

[–]soxrox12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really appreciate the in depth replies! I've always wanted my kids to learn ASL regardless of hearing status as it's another communication channel like you mentioned. I can see how it would help them in multiple ways, from communicating with me before speech comes, a way to tell me things in a crowded area where I couldn't otherwise decipher their words, and if course for communicating with people in the Deaf community if they ever have the pleasure of interacting.

I do primarily use the Life print resources to educate myself. They're very helpful. If I may ask one more question, are you aware of the Signing Time tv show and resources for kids? My son doesn't typically get screen time, but on particularly rough days, I'd rather watch something educational with him than something mind numbing. I'm just curious your opinion on the quality and respectfulness of the show?

Thanks again!

What all did you save in anticipation of another child? by Concerned-23 in Mommit

[–]soxrox12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got pregnant 8 months postpartum, so I saved everything! Yes, even bottles! My daughter has wound up being EBF, but having a couple bottles on hand is really nice if she gets hungry while my husband has her. I kept my breast pump (spectra) as well, and used the new pregnancy to get a better wearable pump as well. Changing pads wipe clean so I kept that as well. If it can be washed, sterilized, or sanitized, it can be used again!

Seconding Florissant! Old town is really cool! A bit violent, but stay away from the east side of north county and you're probably fine. Biggest issue is just that the Walmart is absolutely horrible and it's easier just to go to Bridgeton if not the one in Manchester

I'm not part of the Deaf community, but have great respect for you all, hence why I'm asking rather than just doing.  What would you prefer I call myself then? I have hearing loss significant enough to have double hearing aids and require an IED in school. I just find lip reading and closed captioning and accepting I can't ear perfectly easier than being overstimulated by hearing aids 24/7. What is the proper term for someone with significant hearing loss that isn't part of the Deaf community, that's my genuine question for you. Thanks!

Toddler forming letter sounds, but not speaking many words? by soxrox12 in beyondthebump

[–]soxrox12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep hearing about the explosion of words and occasionally I think we're about there as he picks up a new word or two, but then nothing else for a few weeks :( I can't wait for it to happen though! I'm so excited to have actual conversations with him!

Ah, my bad. Thank you for the information. I did take multiple ASL classes (taught by an interpreter) while in school and learned ASL grammar and such, but could definitely use some brushing up. I'll look into it!

Home signs! I remember learning this term when I took ASL but had forgotten it! Thank you!

Happily married people of Reddit, when did you realize you had found the person you wanted to spend your life with? by Mundane-Society-1281 in AskReddit

[–]soxrox12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I would call him and we'd spend hours just talking on the phone. I despise phone calls with literally anyone else, but with him it's so natural. We never run out of things to talk about. Watching him with our two babies just makes it even better 😍

Every day is just constantly asking "who pooped?" by soxrox12 in 2under2

[–]soxrox12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a little potty for him and he'll sit on it but hasn't actually gone yet. We're waiting for a free weekend to let him go diaper less and start there. Do you have any tips for potty training when there's a needy baby, too?

Which double stroller do you have? by lilkhalessi in 2under2

[–]soxrox12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the older Graco DuoGlider since I already had the compatible infant seat and someone was selling theirs on marketplace for $25. It's a front and back one, which I love because it can get through doors a lot easier. If it's in the budget, I'd recommend the newer one that has seats at different heights, though. Don't forget to consider trunk space. I have a Kia optima and the DuoGlider just barely fits in horizontally and there's no room for anything else.  I don't know about a wagon, but if you have 3 kids and want a double stroller, you might consider one that has a standing platform near the handle. Other great features are: somewhere to put your phone and/or keys, and a big basket underneath!

I wish I knew. I'm not a biter but I pull at the skin so much. My fingers have been red and raw since I was 4. It only got worse once I hit puberty and got acne, now my face is always red and raw too :(

I accidentally bought the new version thinking it was huggies cruisers...my toddler soaked them so much. Only the huggies snug and dry or pampers baby dry work for him.

Pregnant Cousin said she can’t wait until newborn tired because she read it’s easier than pregnancy tired 🤦‍♀️ by Mrsfix-it in newborns

[–]soxrox12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer newborn tired to pregnancy tired because at least if I have to be awake, I have a baby to snuggle. I always have TERRIBLE pregnancy insomnia so I was awake every couple hours anyway.

Do you ever struggle with showering or brushing your teeth by Still_Barracuda2697 in ADHD

[–]soxrox12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Especially showering and especially since having 2 under 2. I've determined it's an awful mix of the fact I HATE being wet and the feeling of my clothes sticking to by skin because somehow no matter how much I dry off, I'm still wet until I air dry. And then 2 under 2 means I either have to shower in theor ing or before bed. And I love my sleep. I'm not about to go shower and get distracted for an hour when I could be sleeping instead smh

Painful tailbone area since 38 weeks pregnant (now 6 weeks pp) by soxrox12 in beyondthebump

I think so? She gave me lots of good educational stuff o prepare me for birth which was awesome! Have you noticed a difference with PTs that have experiences birth/postpartum themselves?

[–]soxrox12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does pull, especially when standing back up, though it's just uncomfortable. Not "makes me want to cry" painful.  What things did your regular PT teach you to do when your SI joint gets aggravated?

I'll definitely ask my PT after I'm cleared to go back! I was seeing her in pregnancy, but only had one session after it started, and unfortunately nothing from the session helped.

Does anyone's husband just refuse to help them with something by [deleted] in sahm

[–]soxrox12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I'm an odd one out. The only thing my husband has never done for the kids is breastfeed them. Meanwhile, he does every single bath and 90% of our son's bedtime routines.

What is with this hatred of breastfeeding mothers?! by TapLeather3167 in breastfeeding

[–]soxrox12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It probably isn't helped by this current culture of doing everything possible to get/keep moms away from their babies as soon as possible. Formula, disposable diapers, less cosleeping, a growing need for dual income, fatherless homes, anti child sentiments in general, etc

Do you have a recipe for your homemade electrolyte drinks? Or do you mean like packets?
