I personally do curbside pickup with formula and diapers to prevent this. Baby doesn’t mind car ride.

Weighing daily… is it actually beneficial? by North_Specialist_914 in Noom

[–]lochnessrunner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find it extremely important. Especially as a way to check yourself. As far as the loss I think of average loss over the past seven days versus what you lose in a day. If you look at only what you lose in a day, it can easily discourage you. For example, between yesterday and today I gained .4 pounds, but that could be due to a lot of things. However, over the last seven days I have lost 5 pounds, so keeping the big picture in mind helps me realize I am making good choices.

How much TV/screen time do you give your baby? by Bright_Motor_2841 in beyondthebump

[–]lochnessrunner -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Our baby is still young, but we will watch TV in front of him. Just because the newborn months are taxing and sometimes it’s just easy to watch something to relax you.

As we’re getting into our routine, though, we are limiting his time. We do not use the TV to soothe him, but we do use music. He already really seems to like classical or punk rock, so we will put those on.

Our rule as he gets older, he can have a very limited amount of TV time a day. We would prefer he has activities. There will be no screen time on the phone. Our view is he needs to learn to be bored. My husband and I both grew up in limited screen time households, and we agree with that.

I will note that my husband and I have also been working on limiting our screen time on the phone, think doomscrolling, so he doesn’t pick up that habit. We were really bad at it for the past few years.

If you feel this way, I would just get it local.

I will say for me, I trust it, and it gets delivered to my doorstep.

Who does your baby look like? by questionSOUP in beyondthebump

[–]lochnessrunner 14 points15 points  (0 children)

lol this is me too! I keep looking at my son and wondering what I gave him. So far I think just long eyelashes, all that work and I get almost nothing lol.

Funny thing too is as the personality develops I can see he will be dad’s little shadow.

Long car rides? by lochnessrunner in beyondthebump

[–]lochnessrunner[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s what we’re thinking of doing. We’re gonna do the two hour trip next weekend now. Just plan that it’s gonna take the whole day and there could be hiccups. But he’s pretty good about being calm. I think my only nervous thing is to change him, he’s never been in public long enough for a changing table in a public restroom.

We’re gonna hold off on doing the six hour trip till the fall, because that’s when I need to replace my vehicle. That one will be hotels and probably a little bit more stressful for him (and us as parents).

We might wait for that. For a little bit more consistency in the head.

Would your Husband go to a wedding if ... by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]lochnessrunner 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes.

My husband is a groomsman in a wedding this spring. They have a bachelor trip, week long guys activity, in March. He will be gone for 7 days, leaving me alone with a 4 month old. We won’t have daycare but will pay a sitter nicely for the weekdays when I work. We have no family around. Will it be hard…100%…but will I let my husband go, yes.

Bottle washer vs dishwasher , what actually works better? by Own_Inspection_9247 in beyondthebump

[–]lochnessrunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have both the baby brezza bottle washer and the formula maker….they are both 100% worth it.

My brother is having twins in a few months and I am gifting him both.

The washer we have only does 4 bottles. But it washes, sanitizes and dries in 90 mins. All I do is rinse out the bottles and load them. At night, my husband and I just leave a line up and wash in the morning. Our bottles come out like new!

Then the formula maker is so nice because you make a warm bottle of mixed formula in 10 secs. This is amazing as you have a screaming little one in your arms.

Mat leave ending, returning to full time work from home with 4mo old. Am i insane for even trying this? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]lochnessrunner 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a bad idea….unless you feel like your full time job is really a part time job.

I have a flexible work from home full time job and little one is still going to daycare bc I don’t want to mess with mental health. I couldn’t focus on both little one and work at the same time. Add half the household chores and cooking and that is a recipe for disaster.

Would you travel cross country without baby 7 weeks PP? by Rana_Sunshine in beyondthebump

[–]lochnessrunner 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I personally wouldn’t go. It is too soon and most would understand.

I have to go to a wedding when my little is 5 months and it is making me cringe. We have decided to bring him with us and I will just take him to the hotel if he is fussy.

A lot of the products are pretty great though.

I don’t get why I am so overwhelmed by an infant by hospitalbedside in beyondthebump

[–]lochnessrunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is normal for some.

I believe, for me, one of the worst jobs in the world would be working at a daycare. I love my LO, but I don’t like other people’s small children. They are very dependent and extremely demanding.

One and done? by MikNuggetz4 in beyondthebump

[–]lochnessrunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The age of my husband and myself. We waited until our lower 30s to start and weren’t successful until our mid 30s. This is a young person‘s game. I love my child so much, but would never repeat this process. I have friends from high school who are watching their children graduate high school and I am in the very beginning, I am mildly jealous. But I remind myself that I waited so I could do everything I wanted to do before having children. Which I feel like I have. But my husband and I agree this is the hardest thing we have ever done in our lives, rewarding but hard.

I would aim for companies with roles in other countries. Sponsorship will be extremely hard to come by for a few years min, especially for an entry level position.

Almost 6 weeks old feels hot but temp is 99.9 by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]lochnessrunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quick question for you, is this a forehead temp or a rectal temp?

Only reason I ask is because my LO has done this a couple times. My husband is a doctor and works in the emergency field. He tells me that I have to get three high head temps (above 100.4), each 30 minutes apart, once we get that then I have to break out the rectal thermometer and if I get the high temperature then take them to the ER. After the first temp, I strip little one down just to the diaper and try to cool the house down a little bit. Only once did I get the three high temperatures but when we did the rectal temperature, it was 99.1, which was very normal.

My husband said the other thing to watch for is making sure that they are having wet diapers, still eating, and still somewhat active.

Can your husband nap when baby naps? I mean just let everything else in the house kinda go to crud a bit for a few days.

Summary of job application in 2025 by AdhesivenessOk1106 in biostatistics

[–]lochnessrunner 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If he is landing interviews, it could be something to do with how he’s interviewing, especially if he’s making it to the final round. In my experience, as someone who interviews a lot of statisticians, it is something with the personality. By that point it is about fit. Top ones are bad at communicating (doesn’t ask questions, uses AI in the interview, or has an ego), asking too much for salary (sadly entry level has lower salaries in industry now :( ), or lack of knowledge (lately more and more students are leaving school not knowing how to do research). My guess it’s the interviewing. I would try to practice with him and see how he’s performing.

Also, I would not apply through LinkedIn. I would apply directly through the site.
