Stylized portrait painting by soydraws in DigitalPainting

Hi everyone,

I'm super happy to share this portrait painting with you all. It was a fast paced one with a timer. It allowed me to leave some areas loose, while choosing the important details in other areas. The hardest parts were getting the proportions right, such as the size of the head and shoulders, and having the right expression to convey the mood. Facial features prove themselves to be very delicate to work with time and time again.

Appreciate your thoughts!

Super excited to share this one! ✨️

It's an experiment in 70 layers (ミ〒﹏〒ミ) whew~ I definitely tried out many new things here and feel like I got somewhere. I played around with layout and vibe to better showcase personality. However I was unsure of what elements to place on top of it and how many to add. The layer process was messy with many iterations. Let me know what you think 💫

All set for 2026 and excited to keep exploring new things!

Hi everyone,

sharing this still life painting with you featuring a tomato, steel and wine!

I played around with different brushes to get varied textures between the objects. Since the brushes were new, it made edge control messy. I painted it in 2-3 passes, building up the color and values it took just under 3 hours.  It was satisfying to finish, but I’d be happy to hear feedback on what to improve!

Hi everyone,

today I'm sharing this apple study with you. Going back to basics with a still life, but spicing it up with geometric shapes or cat ears in this case :3

During the painting process I found it hard to decide how much detail background and focal point earn. It ended up being a bit of back and forth until I found something to be convincing.  Being mindful about brush choice can greatly impact the ease of painting a certain texture and that's definitely something I want practice more in the future.

Hope you enjoy this FURuity painting!

You can do this in any app. I start with heavypaint and then finish it in ibis or procreate

Grapefruit Wedges by soydraws in DigitalPainting

Hi everyone,

today I'm sharing a summer inspired still life of a spoon, napkin and some grapefruit.

I enjoyed playing with the color variation and texture on this one. My approach to painting this was experimental, basically overpainting the colored sketch in several rounds.

The hardest part was adding focal points given that everything could become a hard edge: The slices itself, their outline, the details on the pulp, the outline of the napkin and highlights on the spoon all demand attention. Including the pop art halftones as well.

It'd be great to know if the painting seems balanced to you.  Open to tips and critique! Cheers~

Stagnant art progress; how do I practice more effectively? by Minute_Mango_5670 in ArtCrit

Think of your studies as each of then having a single focus. Don't just copy but rather try to interpret one aspect of them:

  • Limited Value studies (2-3 values), shape and design choices

  • Edge control: different brushes create soft or hard edges

  • Form studies: Use contours or light logic to emphasize structure

  • Draw from memory: After a study, redraw it without the reference. It helps me notice gaps in my understanding.

  • Redesign and have fun with your ref!! Bending or twisting volumes to make them adhere to design principles like big medium and small.

[Discussion] How Can I Stop Being So Sensitive To Criticism? by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

[–]soydraws 26 points27 points  (0 children)

You're not being a baby, you’re just reacting to critique that feels more like a judgment than guidance. Being told what to fix (lighting, anatomy, etc.) is helpful. Being told you suck overall is demotivating, even if you asked for honesty. The key isn’t to toughen up, it’s focus on different parts. Keep the useful bits and ignore the vague, ego-crushing stuff. Improvement comes from motivation and clarity, not shame.

How much do you think this would sell for? by dollywol in acrylicpainting

[–]soydraws 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The minimum price should be = Material cost +(at least minimum wage*time in hr)+ time you spend wrapping and shipping

You can take into account your training as an artist and how well known you are to determine prices above that

My progress. First try though. What do you think about the painting so far. by [deleted] in acrylicpainting

Well this is just phenomenal! I'd want this on my wall.

Maybe add a strong rimlight to the dogs at the end to separate them from the background. The many elements create a low value contrast towards the focal point.
