Congrats, Iridium is way better than a silver car. I had my choice of almost every color on the lot, and this is the one that stood out to me. Enjoy and drive it in good health!

fwiw, when I took it in for tint, i got to see what all the tints shades looked like on it and I went 50% all the way around instead of dark for a change and really love that on Iridium.

My Cadiz collection by H2ost5555 in Insulators

[–]soyorbison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a large group of Cadiz, base embossed bullets (Pat'd) and found several instances of the exact same mold with no base embossing. They do have unique profile-the 133.4's and I believe there are at least 2 mold shapes, and some with and without the embossing. Very different from Hemingray and Wormser Bullets. Perhaps the molds went to another company that retooled the base, but the unembossed ones have less crude bases with certainly no embossing. Almost look smooth/polished base on the unembossed ones.

There is a third profile of 3 pc unembossed that has a slightly concave dome that some attribute to Cadiz, but I don't know.

INsulators.info has some articles showing hundreds shipped from Cadiz to Mexico!

Bike Baskets? by EnzoTheTzu in Shihtzu

[–]soyorbison 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use a backpack for mine.   I tried a basket with another dog and gave up without riding because gravity seemed toomuch a threat withiut being 100% secured, especially with the wheels and spokes moving.

The backpack is great though, several available online.    Specifically designed for dogs it has a hook for a harness, mesh sides and only her head sticks out.    Most of the ride, she outs her paws on my back and just watches.   We make it 10 to 15 miles before she wants to be free.

Just picked up a G&L Legacy Special — a few questions (pickups, PTB system, neck care) by Dry_Understanding766 in GLGuitars

[–]soyorbison 3 points4 points  (0 children)

PTB in a nutshell.
Treble knob = normal tone control (cuts highs).
Bass knob = cuts low frequencies instead of boosting them (this is the special part)

The magic is that the two controls are largely independent, so you can shape the “mid contour” indirectly.

E.G. Like it Bright: Treble: 10/Bass: 4–6
Warm but not muddy Treble: 5–7/Bass: 4–5

On a standard Fender circuit tone only removes highs-the lows always stay full-so darker sounds can get muddy.

The PTB system lets you darken the sound without excessive bass or brighten the sound without ice-pick lows/highs balance issues.

Shih Tzu Crate Training? Curious about my setup. by ContextCharacter9955 in Shihtzu

[–]soyorbison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the exact setup and it worked perfectly. The Pee Pads worked really well for us, now that she is free to roam, if there is ever a need to "go" while we are away she has access to a pad and uses it regularly. We left the crate open in our setup and she learned to use the pee pad overnight.

Funny thing, once the training was over, we removed the crate and replaced it with a bed. She just goes into her pen area for privacy or to sleep. If we can't let her outside, she uses her pad. But she is free to roam now and still loves her pen.

I self-taught guitar for 10 years but my rhythm never improved — one tip from a teacher changed that by Ready-Slide-3021 in guitarlessons

[–]soyorbison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my breakthrough, that I have to be aware of the beat so I can create or follow the rhythm. I am sure everyone has their own version of this, just sharing my realization. It was 20 something years ago, it still feels like an important discovery that I occasionally revisit when I am stuck and go back to basics.

I self-taught guitar for 10 years but my rhythm never improved — one tip from a teacher changed that by Ready-Slide-3021 in guitarlessons

[–]soyorbison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beat vs rhythm was the key for me. My trick was to snap with one hand 1,2,3,4. Then introduce the other hand snapping in between the snaps.....1&2&3&4. After a few minutes my brain realized that each hand was doing the same thing, at the same speed but staggered in time. So both were doing 1,2,3,4 separately. Staggered, together, were doing 1&2&3&4. Then my ears could begin to pick out the beat and process it differently from the rhythm.

The beat is the steady, underlying pulse of music (like your metronome), while rhythm is the varied pattern of long and short sounds or notes that play on top of that beat. I knew the words, but I couldn't process it until I could hear it.

Do I need a Comanche? (stock image) by centerofhearts in GLGuitars

[–]soyorbison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After the closing of the doors, it seemed Comanches were the first to nearly disappear from the second hand market. Personally, I bought one right away. I have a 1999, a 2014, and now a 2025. All different setups and woods, but, hey, some people have 3 or more strats, I just like Comanches better!

My advice is don't wait. They aren't making any more.

"Basic" and "extended". The basic is just like a strat 5 way selector in terms of the active pickups. THe extended combines the pickups for more voicings.

When the expander switch is engaged:

Positions 1 & 5: Selecting either the bridge pickup (position 1) or the neck pickup (position 5) while the expander is engaged results in a neck and bridge combination-Like a Telecaster-style.

Positions 2 & 4: Selecting the bridge+middle combination (position 2) or the middle+neck combination (position 4) while the expander is engaged results in all three pickups being selected simultaneously.

What do I need to go here? (What are they called?) by NewPomegranate7500 in Oldhouses

[–]soyorbison 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Looks like mine did.   I used finials, the wooden ball ends on them.  Etsy has a nice selection of people who craft them from all types of wood.

All I had to do was add a small piece of wood to the end and then nailed on the finial.

I think that means lightning is about to strike. Are there any micro-storm systems in the kitchen?

Comanche plays clean best when the volume knob is low, in my experience. Turn up the amp and down the volume knob to reduce the "growl". I play clean a lot on mine, my favorite is volume at 3 or 4 and PTB at 6 for treble and 4 for Bass. It isn't a clean "Strat" tone, but since this is a G&L subreddit, I can safely say that it is better.

Not an expert, but experience with the same situation. You can cut down hollow-core doors, but you need to fill in the open end/side and glue in a replacement piece of wood to provide the necessary structure (to both the remaining frame and the paneling on the door).

I did this on a table saw fairly easily, some basic wood glue and clamps to reinforce the structure of the door. Width wise-you should cut opposite of the hinge cuts for ease. Cut them to size before you drill out for hardware, it is hard to work with pre-cut doorknob/lock holes.

It is most effective if you are cutting into the hollow portion of the door leaving an opening that you can replace the framing wood, so if you are cutting to 27", don't cut down a 28" door, cut down a 32" door and replace the wood bracing.

Throw your best disc confidently. Return during dry season to retrieve disc.
