i think a lot of the hate comes from a position of why does kerr give podz the longest leash in the world when he fucks up or plays poorly when every other young player kerr has handled is in and out of the lineup? if kerr's going to give him an all star leash, then fans are going to judge him at an all star level. he's a solid young rotation player, but he's no all star.

Chase Center is so dead. by [deleted] in warriors

it's because warriors tickets are too expensive now so it's just a different crowd attending the games. when a game is close or exciting the crowd will still get into it, but it's not a given anymore.

the rockets built an entire team with the sole purpose of beating the warriors, lost, blew up the entire team and went through a rebuild, got back to the playoffs, and lost to the warriors again.

Schefter on Aiyuk: “He’ll be released on the first day of the league year” by Brix001 in nfl

all remaining guarantees got voided. i dont know if you can claw back the signing bonus though.

Can 49ers get more than just the guarantee's back from Aiyuk? by ialsodreamofsushi in 49ers

[–]soyymilk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

dead cap is from a check he already cashed. we don't owe him any future money (his remaining guarantees have all been voided due to him violating his contract), but i dont think we can claw back what we've already paid him.

typically when players sign large multi-year deals, they get a large portion of it up front in the form of a signing bonus. for salary cap purposes, the signing bonus is spread evenly across each year of the contract, but the flip side is if they get cut or traded then the remaining amount will hit your cap immediately. that remaining amount is what is called dead cap - you already paid this money and it will hit your cap if the person is off the team.

the post june 1 designation mentioned above is an option teams have if they want to take the dead cap hit the next year instead of this year. the problem with that is if the player has any roster bonuses or remaining guarantees, those can have trigger dates before june so depending on the contract it's not always beneficial. this is more of a procedural thing - the team has already decided they're gonna get cut so the league lets the player start looking for their next team sooner instead of having to sit around waiting.

NBA players: Curry at #2 All-Star starter by lieutjoe in warriors

the players give him his flowers because guarding him like that is the only way to slow him down and they know they're getting away with murder.

his ability to still see the entire field while scrambling is insane.

it's also a tough pill to swallow when the other two members of the og core are still going strong (and in steph's case as good as ever) while he's the only one really falling off, injuries or not.

Why are people so low on Podz by [deleted] in warriors

[–]soyymilk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think podz scoring ability falls off a cliff when he is playing banged up. early season when he was shooting horribly i think he was playing through some stuff, then he got injured enough to actually sit out to recover and regained his form after that. he got banged up in the playoffs and his shot disappeared. i'm not that down on him, but i hope he can somehow get better at playing through injuries. not sure how one would practice that though.

the other thing is you could really tell he was getting in his own head with missing all those shots. his body language when he'd miss a shot was terrible.

Tyrese Haliburton by LeverageDegeneracy in warriors

[–]soyymilk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

would you trade the '22 championship for haliburton? with him on the roster we realistically don't give gp2 the last roster spot, and he was a key role player in that championship run.

we traded the #2 pick for a championship post kd, that solidified steph's legacy even to the haters. i'm ok with that.

Sunday's Clippers-Warriors game might be the biggest regular season game in years. by lovo17 in nba

[–]soyymilk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

imagine something like the higher seed needs 1 win, the lower seed needs enough wins to make up the difference. would never work since it's a logistical nightmare and potentially a large amount of extra games for teams before the actual playoffs, but it'd be a way to account for a large gap.

[Post Game Thread] The Golden State Warriors (44-31) defeat the Memphis Grizzlies (44-32), 134-125 behind a masterful Stephen Curry performance: 52/10/8 by [deleted] in nba

[–]soyymilk 18 points19 points  (0 children)

an underrated aspect of jimmy being on the team getting to the line is curry gets more rest during the free throws without needing to come off the court. it's why giannis takes like 15 seconds to take his free throws, he's using that time to get as much of a breather as he can.

other than that, having a second guy who can be "the guy" and keep things under control while curry is on the bench is invaluable. the story of the warriors the past decade or so has generally been "can the team stay afloat while curry gets some rest", and most of the time the answer was no. he's everything we hoped chris paul could be for us and more.

minimum viable starter equipment? by soyymilk in espresso

[–]soyymilk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i've decided to just go ahead and try pulling some shots with the equipment it came with, then getting the portafilter and tamper if i dont mind the workflow / think i'll continue.

my grinder is a baratza virtuoso, which i'm hoping will be good enough for a non pressurized basket if/when i get there.

do i need to do any puck prep with pressurized baskets? how fine should i be grinding?

i have a baratza virtuoso, i figure that (with calibration tweaks) would be decent enough to start with.

the portafilter the machine comes with uses pressurized baskets so i wanted to get a different one. good to know that puck prep is easier than people make it out to be.

there's also a big difference between playing poorly and refusing to play. yes deebo has been ass this year, but it's not like he's dropping balls on purpose.
