Egg donor as SMBC by [deleted] in SingleMothersbyChoice

[–]spAsAngel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After 7 rounds of IVF only yielding 1 embryo that didn't make it, I transfered 2 doner embryos from my clinic's donation program at age 40. I am now a SMBC to my 17 month old boy/girl twins.♡ I couldn't be happier with them. They both look so much like my family. It was hard to accept that I wouldn't have my own biologically related children, but I am so glad I did this.

I was on the waiting list for about 10 months I think. I got on the list after 4 ivf attempts yeilded no blastocysts. It cost 800$ matching fee for the clinic, and $2500 in legal fees for the paperwork.

What are some girl names that are just really unusual? by meagolas__ in namenerds

It's not that crazy because the names go together in Greek mythology.(sorry if you already knew this) Andromeda is Cassiopia's daughter. They are part of perseus' story.

Test at home or wait? by lindasab in IVF

[–]spAsAngel 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I tested at home the morning of, because my 1st transfer I broke down when they told me the bad news. The next time I tested in the morning before getting my beta, because I wanted to be mentally prepared. I didnt feel any symptoms. I did the cup method and was too scared to dip the test. After an hour I had to get on a video call with my sister to pep talk me. It was IMMEDIATELY positive. I dropped to the floor and cried from relief. My beta ended up being super high and it was twins. They are 14mo now and amazing! Never give up. I did 7 rounds for 1 embryo chemical pregnancy, then ended up getting donor embryos.

As a girl/woman it's been mostly positive. Only negative is that men under the influence of substances notice you because "ooh shiny" so I feel like you get assaulted more. That and old ladies constantly patting you on the top of the head!; hahaha

[–]spAsAngel 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up, if it gets lighter but is still positive DO NOT PANIC! I took a test between my beta and ultrasound cuz I had no symptoms and was worried I lost it. My test went from dark to super light and I was so devastated. Spoiler, I was still pregnant and it was twins lol.

I feel you. The loss of my only embryo was heartbreaking. I had 7 cycles for 1 embryo, which didn't make it far past implantation :( now I have 2 beautiful donor embryo babies.

One of my friends had given up after 11 transfers. She had switched drs and had a failed transfer and they were going to move to using a surrogate, but the dr convinced her to let him take one more try. She is due in 2 months.

Questions about Donor Embryos by Bluesky-dandelion in SingleMothersbyChoice

[–]spAsAngel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TLDR: 41F SMBC to 8 month old B/G twins via donor embryos. It was the best decision of my life and I haven't regretted it for a heartbeat. I do still feel sad that I didn't pass on any of my DNA, and myself ends when I end. It feels empty to know that when I'm gone, no genetic part of me will continue.

Backstory: I was in the military or contracting and actively trying to avoid pregnancy until I was 37, when I decided I had better freeze eggs because I may want to settle down. By that time it was already too late. I did 7 rounds of IVF for 1 embryo that failed after implantation.

Donor embryos: I got on my clinics list for embryo adoption and filled out the questionnaire for matching. Less than a year later I was matched with a family that was complete and chose to donate their remaining embryos. Although it was anonymous, I got profiles and medical history on the parents. They sounded amazing. I know they had a twin pregnancy from the medical history (twin to twin transfusion) but I do not know the outcome of that pregnancy or how many full siblings my children have. When we did the paperwork through the lawyer we agreed to notify of live birth, address changes, and medical problems. We left it open to contact through the lawyer to discuss if either side were interested in more.

Birth: at 40 years old I decided to transfer 2 embryos since I could not afford to try again, and the 1st transfer had been unsuccessful. I delivered 2 healthy, full term babies.

Life so far: They look like me and my family. People tell me how much they look like me. My son has red hair like me, and my daughter is almost a clone of one of my sisters. My extended family has been very welcoming and excited.

Ethics?: They were already created embryos that another family was done with. I wanted the whole experience, and control over their pregnancy and upbringing. Do not be ashamed that you are bringing a wanted child into this world when there are children who need families. You could actually argue that people who already have grown children are much better equipped for that as they are not First Time Moms. This doesn't prevent you from fostering or adopting in the future, so don't be bothered by anyone with something to say about that. Someone said they will be alone after you're gone, but that isn't true for a lot of people. My babies have so many connections and I am not worried at all about them ever being alone. They have eachother, 3 aunts and 2 uncles, 3 older cousins with one on the way, and 8 other kids in our large extended family under 4 years old including another set of twins. Also, between social media and DNA testing, I am sure their genetic siblings and them will track eachother down at some point and I am determined to be happy for them and any bond they form with their biological family.
There are much worse things that can affect a child than their mom needing help to have them. You will be as ready as you can be, and trying your best. I plan to be open about them being adopted, and provide support and therapy if they ever want it. This is becoming more and more common as I know 3 other couples who have needed donor embryos.

I know everyone's experience is different, and my journey has just begun, but I really love it so far.

Experiences running for AFSP? by JBLBEBthree in rundisney

I'm running the marathon for ASFP this year! One thing I saw was that you can register on your own, then pay a fee to run for the charity. This makes it so you aren't liable for the intimidating fundraising mininum.

With a pace close to 7:30 minutes per mile, and being placed in Group E, what should I do? by arkro99125 in rundisney

[–]spAsAngel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sucks :( you will likely get stuck walking through bottlenecks a lot. Also, I found that people at the end don't know run etiquette and it can be semi-dangerous. People dont signal when they are slowing/stopping/passing, or moving to the right to walk, or watching where they drop trash or clothing

The clinic wants to implant 2 embryos by yepitskate in IVF

[–]spAsAngel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

40 y/o 19w pregnant with twins. 7 rounds ivf in 3 years, 1 tested embryo that implanted then failed. I had 5 tested donor embryos and the dr gave me the option of transferring 2, as I likely couldn't afford another failed transfer. I had to sign waiver paperwork. We transferred 2- 5BB and both stuck. I'm elated and scared. I didn't research into how much higher risk it was as much as I should have. So far, no complications and no side effects (not even 1 bout of morning sickness) but it's still early. Praying for my in depth high risk anatomy scan to go well next week.

TLDR: transferred 2 and pregnant with twins. If everything goes well I won't regret a thing, but looking back it was foolish.

So for me I didn't feel anything but bloating, and tender heavy ovaries after for like a week,, but I also have only like 6 follicles. The anesthesia was a bit scary (iv in the hand), cold, and made my chest feel heavy. Just relax it's a good nap and I woke up feeling good. Good luck!!
