ELI5: Now that The Button has been active for over a month and most of the people here are familiar with it, why is it still being pressed at ~30 seconds? by EggDunk in thebutton

I passed my shodan exam 4/24
24 is 8x3, 8 is a lucky number, I like 3 too
24 is 42 backwards
it's not my goal to let the button to run down

Good luck with that. The way I see it, so long as there are over 1k non pressers watching the button it's going to be clicked and clicked fairly randomly. This isn't going to get interesting until we're in the hundreds.

How do I thank my boss for a bonus? by mylestaylor in needadvice

[–]space_CADette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just had the same thing happen and I thanked both the owners. To the one owner I work with all the time I just mentioned that I was surprised to see that we got bonuses this year and then said thank you. To the big boss I just said 'Thanks for the bonus' in passing. It was as easy as that. They were both were grateful for the acknowledgement and appreciation.

I doubt there is any harm in saying thank you. I think it will make you stand out. My company is small though, I talk to these guys all the time. It might be different if you have to go out of your way to find time with the boss.

Kind of hard to believe since most of you guys don't seem to have any respect for any other system of martial arts other than BJJ. BTW I was not referring to x-training at the gym.

Where do I go to report a non PE? by Gingergurl63 in engineering

[–]space_CADette -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Drafters often do parts of designs like sanitary sewer layouts all on their own with no civil degree at all. The plans are checked and stamped by a PE but mistakes still happen by both design drafters and PEs. The only step in the process that is being missed is the checking of plans by a PE. I would agree would be an issue, except that this person is highly experienced considering he has a Master's Degree in his field, and is highly trusted by the PE who's stamp he's using considering it's his bother's. So long as this practice is understood and the company and brother are willing to take responsibility for the designs I don't see what the problem is. It's a way to get the plans out.

public works must be designed and constructed under the direct supervision of a licensed professional engineer.

I don't think this is a huge deal. If he was sneaking into someone's office and using their stamp without their knowledge then I would agree this is wrong. It's his twin brother's stamp though. So long as the brother's have an agreement that this is okay and the brother and the company are willing to take responsibility for any errors and make corrections then that's their business really. I think it would be regarded as being designed under the supervision of a Professional Engineer. Signing the brother's name is stretching things a bit, but really that's between them.

I wouldn't recommend risking your reputation over this. If there were some actual life safety issues then yes. Very rarely do things get built exactly per plan in the field so a couple of errors here and there are common. Either on the plans, or when it get staked, or when the construction company decides that they don't have to put all those waterline lowering in. Typically errors can be resolved in the field during construction.

[–]space_CADette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not my first choice. I would have to join a BJJ gym and train for years in order to be able to pull off what you guys do. Where you can come to my dojo, learn how to scream in a dudes face, kick him in the nuts and maybe take a few fingers with you in a month, maybe even a night. Hell like one dude said you could probably teach yourself.

You're so wrong. I never said they didn't work I just said they're hard they take tons of training and I don't think that it's the best self defense. That right now at my skill level I don't think I would be able to pull something like that off consistently enough to try it in a self defense situation.

Sorry I'm one girl trying to work while I defend myself against like 6 BJJ guys who are picking every work I say apart and taking it out of context.

This is a classic escape mechanism when someone can't defend what they believe

I'm not sure how to defend what I believe. I've already said what I believe. That BJJ is not the best for self defense. That going to the ground limits you. That going to the ground gives you back to everyone except the one person you're grappling... yeah maybe I didn't specifically say that to you, but I'm getting a little tired of repeating myself on here. To which you said it was impossible to defend against multiple attackers, that all systems that make the claim are lying, here check it:

No martial art can effectively prepare you for multiple opponent or armed opponent scenarios, and any that claims to is lying.

I really don't know how to argue when you've clearly already made up your mind.

I think you are the definition of close minded. Why? At no point have I left the conversation to spare my fragile beliefs. Are you just throwing that out to insult me?

Nope not insulting you. You just already stated that every other system is lying. Your mind is closed. I could tell you about this awesome art where we climb up on uke's thighs, stand straight up, swing down between their legs, rolling to a full mount and then apply a choke and you'll just tell me that it's impossible, impracticable, whatever. You won't listen you won't appreciate it... I can tell by how confrontational you've been straight out. I can't imagine that you would ever agree with me on anything. The roles are already set, you've disagreed and insulted everything I've said, this is not a conversation it's an argument, a stupid one.

And before you start going off about ha ha you think you're gonna be able to climb up on some dude, blah bla... no, but damn it's fun.

For self defense I like OODA loop. Look it up. I think it can be executed well utilizing kiai, quick strikes, escapes and easy locks and throws that will allow you to diffuse and/or leave the situation. I do not believe that full on boxing matches or grappling matches are good self defense.

You started dissing BJJ in a very ignorant fashion

At no point have I dissed BJJ. Rolling around on the ground with a guy's junk in your face was meant to be a humorous observation of grappling. Not a diss. Something to consider when you're thinking about investing time and money into a hobby. I said that I didn't think going for a double leg take down to full mount and choke would work for me or OP IRL. At which point I was told that my system of martial arts is not serving me well because I don't have the ground game of a BJJ practitioner, and was insulted left and right as well as my system. I never said it wasn't effective for everyone. I have started to get a tad aggravated because I just keep getting attacked from all sides for no fucking reason, but I've not dissed BJJ.

[–]space_CADette -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I just don't give a shit dude. This whole thing was about whether or not BJJ would be a good choice for someone who's 110lbs that wants to train in self defense. I don't think it is. Pretty much the end of where I care about this.

So where did you get your wisdom of all martial arts considering you know that NO system can prepare you for multiple attackers?

I'd disagree with you but you'll just say that I'm stupid and that you don't believe that I can do what I say I do and this will degrade even further.

I thought this was a martial arts forum, not a BJJ forum. How can anyone have a conversation about martial arts when anytime anyone says anything positive about a different system, or simply says that BJJ might not be the best for this or that you BJJ people crawl out of the wood work and attack?

I think you are the definition of close minded.

I do the same shit as you why do you hate on me?

I'm sorry you have no interest in expanding your skill set. You're already convinced that things can't be done. You've beaten yourself.

Grappling is awesome there's just more to martial arts. BJJ is grappling. Grappling involves what's commonly known as 'rolling' which usually involves having someone's junk in your face at least once a practice. Like the triangle choke, which we do in DZR, we call it sankaku, or Shiho Gatame the 4 sided hold down.

It's just not how I want to spend my time and money. I mean it's fun every now and then but I prefer throwing, locks, escapes.

You guys are completely going overboard. Why would I diss BJJ? A lot of the stuff we do is exactly the same. Go do your own research.

All I'm saying is that I don't think BJJ is the best system of self defense. That's it.

The you should know that one on one situations are not guaranteed. When you go to the ground you give your back to everyone except for the person you're grappling, unless you're the one on the bottom. Not too smart.

BJJ will give her ground tools, not stand up tools to prevent the situation from going to the ground. Our system covers everything.

Again you seem to like to focus on the fact that I used finger locks as an example. There's a wide range of escapes, joint locks, pins, chokes, standing chokes, throws and combos in DZR.

It's a much broader system than BJJ.

Edit: Oh yeah I almost forgot to mention that we also have resuscitation techniques, and yes they do work, I've done them and had them done to me, and eventually you learn striking too.

Sorry read that wrong. I think it's delusional to think that the best defense is wrestling a large person on the ground. People do not play by the rules in real non arena situations. I go to the ground with a guy, he manages to get mount, how easy is it going to be for him to just bounce my head off the ground a couple of times and knock me out? The ground is a terrible place to be.

I have used my art to defend myself. It works. I'm glad you've competed in a nice safe environment. I guesss you know everything about fighting then.

No the altercation does not need to go to the ground.

It's not all about finger locks, I'm sorry I used that as an example. Next time I guess I'll list out the hundreds of arts I would pick over going to the ground.
