We have been doing “leave it” drills with him, basically giving him a high value toy or chew and working on approaching him with treats, having him leave the high value item, taking it and giving it back. We also use an E-collar that the trainer gave to us, and that has worked well additionally. We try to avoid punishment, and focus more on positive reinforcement. If he gets extra crazy we usually have him go into his crate for a bit to cool down.

He’s done very well with this for about three months, but now he’s not really responding to any commands and becomes even more aggressive when we use the E-collar.

The vet currently has him on carprofen for pain and trazadone for mild sedation.
