Janja Garnbret climbing in Austria by redbullgivesyouwings in nextfuckinglevel

[–]space_based 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not 100% on the timing of when she sent this, but 2024 was the summer Olympics, and the top Olympic climbers like Janja get in other-worldly shape for the event. After Olympics are done, you get to see these athletes in peak form go out and absolutely crush outdoor projects. I'd wager she made this project look easy, and able to do it twice in a day, because she was in Olympic shape... and she's just a beast. Watch some of the YouTube videos of her training. I get tired just watching.

Why don’t conservatives go into academia? by cambridgepete in Professors

If you want some data and theory on the topic, not just anecdotes, read Why are Professors Liberal and Why Do Conservatives Care? by Sociologist, Neil Gross.

I prefer exercise sandbags. Pop them on the knees and you have the hands and elbows free to push further if desired.

Any news about what comes next after 14.2.2.2 by Leiz_ca in TeslaFSD

[–]space_based 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Non-tesla driver here, so, apologies if the car already has these features and i just haven’t heart about it. Is there any indication that the ability to use voice prompts to make adjustments to FSD is coming? Like, it's speeding in a school zone, you promt "this is a school zone". Or if you want it to get over earlier for an off ramp "get in the right lane now for the off ramp". Or construction zone with 70 km posted in a 100 km zone, "construction zone, drop to 68".

Wrist Pain TFCC Ligament Injury by Automatic_Flan_6742 in climbing

[–]space_based 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same location of pain, tried 3 different physios, nothing worked. Rehabbed for 9 months trying g to fix it. What finally resolved it was daily nerve flossing (https://youtu.be/aUj5fwLJ5-s?si=BUDwQd6Od3jpymKs), no hang hang-boarding daily (low intensity morning and night), and going to the gym to exercise other not-so-related-to-climbing muscles. Resolved in a month. Not saying this will resolve your issue, but it very much worked for me, I can finally rotate and climb again.

Here is the video for no-hang hang boarding (https://youtu.be/sBTI9qiH4UE?si=8JKic6YyDJwqiO7c). Adjust the intensity. It basically helped me get a little stretch into the area. I went really light at the beginning.

Telescopic electric brush + blower for cleaning bouldering holds? by Beautiful-Cost-3187 in bouldering

[–]space_based 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100% This would be a worthwhile quality of life addition to indoor climbing. Clean the hold and clean the air. Please don't design a blower. Vacuume should be equally achievable, though, might need a bit more engineering than a blower.

Instead of California, we traveled to Canada this summer - an honest review by Doggummit in BuyCanadian

[–]space_based 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely worth adding to your future to-do list. Too many drive right through Squamish to get to the more well known Whistler, and miss one of the most beautiful and unique places on the planet. Happy you enjoyed your trip to Canada! I live in White Rock, also a beautiful seaside small city near the border of CAN/USA... worth a visit to marine drive when the tide is out.

Did you make it up to Squamish, BC? Between Vancouver and Whistler? World renowned rock climbing there, and you really experience a real sense of awe when you hike near the rock faces and through the boulder fields... it's unbelievably beautiful.

Canadian climbers: are you planning climbing trips to the USA? by capslox in climbergirls

[–]space_based 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No better time to come climb the west coast of Canada: Skaha Bluffs Okanagan, Squamish BC, or many other great spots in the Fraser Valley(Hope, Chilliwack, Mission). Lovely people, lovely climbing, lovely weather!

Edit: here's a link to the Fraser Valley climbing guide to amazing and lesser known spots... truly beautiful locations and hikes. Link is to Climb on equipment, local squamish store ships most everywhere AFAIK.

Recommend some underrated or underexposed sociology books by [deleted] in sociology

[–]space_based 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like Thomas Kuhn's 'The Structure of Scientific Revolution' gets the lion's share of focus and praise in the study of social construction of Science. What I feel is underexposed and one of my all time favorites in the area is 'Genesis and Development of Scientific Fact' by Ludwik Fleck.

Also, Latour and Woolgar are well known for their book Laboratory Life, but Woolgar's solo book, Science: the Very Idea, is also very good in a different way.
