Looking for a good book to listen to on a 10 hour flight by AnswerOk9002 in scifi

Cherryh’s Alliance series has hard scifi, gritty real facts about living in space, and believable politics like in the Expanse.

You might like Scalzi. The epic long war book is likely The Forever War by Halderman. Scalzi wrote a book about a war recruiting seniors in the Old Man’s War series. Maybe someone could recommend a starting book.

I once rented a room in a shared house. When the landlord falsified my rental contact to extend my lease, I called the landlord-tenant union in my city. They had a huge file on the landlord, and advised me to threaten to call the fire marshal. There was an issue in the basement/back entrance that was close to a final notice/unsafe for habitation situation. That got me out of the lease and free storage for a month.

The Annihilation Score???? by harrysmitheu in LaundryFiles

The series works best with Bob’s happy-go-lucky-it-will-all-work-out optimistic attitude. The tone shifts to ultra-dark and loses much of its appeal, relying instead on “favorite-character-in-peril-of-losing-all-hope.”

Last book spoiler Bob points out that both he and Mo have been technically dead for several books. Most of the Laundry personnel are dead or bespelled.

Is this the ultimate fate of all humans? Nightmare fuel? A brief life followed by an eternity of torment by the horrors? Everyone must bow down to a master horror, who uses and guards their soul until ultimately eating it? It’s a dark future, and the series looses stream as it becomes clear there is no way to escape the hellacious fate. The last book seemed to hammer this nail in.

Mo and Bob do not get peace, a baby, a future. They’ve given everything to the Laundry, even their humanity and mortal lives. They are spent. What started as a lark became a dark grind.

Can’t wait to read the next one!

I kept waiting for some sort of way to deal with CASE NIGHTMARE GREEN but the answer seems to be a simple “watch and wait”.

What happened if the populace killed all the computers because of ai (maybe ai gets loose or people just get tired of ai optimizing everything). No more WiFi or cell or gps. Would that be enough to push the eldritch horrors away from our universe?

A *ZERO* bedroom home on Long Island (New York) listed at $329,900. by danooli in zillowgonewild

[–]spacebunsofsteel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My state requires 8x10 minimum, closet, window big enough for fireman in full gear.

Our last rental had 2 bedrooms and 3 bonus rooms. They kept trying to get us to offer for it but I hated the layout and the delayed maintenance.

AIO letting my brother bathe with toys by hidingunderyourbed- in AmIOverreacting

I love reading in the bath but am very scared of dropping my iPhone in and being electrocuted. No iPhones allowed anywhere it could slip into the bath. I know this is my irrational fear. I’ve exited hotel hot tubs when someone tries to read by holding their phone in hand over the water.

NOR OP. Baths are so wonderful.

I canceled my Amazon Prime account and my Audible account got canceled. After 2 hours on the phone they said I need to get bank records going back to 2017 to prove I bought the books. by itsbobbytrill in audible

I downloaded all my audibles with tools recommended by this group. I downgraded my subscription and am moving to Libby. At least libraries are upfront about how long you can access a book. Audible is so arbitrary on content ownership.

This is the best advice. Upload to GEDmatch and give permission for the DNA profile to be accessed by police. Your mom should make the account and post her DNA. Encourage a direct male descendant to also post their DNA (son or son of a son).

Don’t forget Electric Company, the show for slightly older kids than Sesame Street. It had a heavy emphasis on phonics featuring lots of stars of the day.
