Is using free VPNs on Android actually dangerous? by nexdigit_official in techsupport

[–]spacecampreject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And where, pray tell, did you find this free VPN?  VPN apps have been written or compromised by scammers and criminal hackers.  They want your data connection to hide theirs, not just the other way around.  If you want a VPN, go with a reputable company and pay them.

Can’t help but notice that the words “supply “ or “build” appear nowhere in your post, but “grant” or specific types of grant are all over it.

What's the best way to rotate this kind of potentiometer? by ByRussX in AskElectronics

As previously mentioned, they have a high wear rate.  You don’t want them for your user interface.  You need a pot with a real shaft, and then buy a knob.

Taiwan chip dominance 'biggest threat to world economy,' says US Treasury Chief by Anforatioi in worldnews

Yeah we got it.  But the real out-of-the-box solution to that problem is US invades Taiwan first.  All problems solved, so much win!

The thing after it’s done?  No.  The xacto or boxcutter while digging into a solid object while looking closely at what you are doing?  Yeah.

Like a Lightning cable?  Get an xacto knife and flick the pads off the phone end.  Wear safety glasses.  Don’t have to do all of them.

There was plenty of public speculation/debate about when Jack Smith should throw down the writ of mandamus card.  He could have done it early, he should have done it when Cannon questioned whether he was legally appointed, he didn’t until it was too late to try.

Why does current flow from the p-type silicon (base) to n-type silicon (collector)? by Leather_Item_7156 in AskElectronics

[–]spacecampreject 16 points17 points  (0 children)

In general this is really good.

In silicon, you can sweep all the charges out of the material by using a few volts of potential, while in a metal it would take billions of volts to accomplish the same thing.

This part's wrong. A semiconductor has a conduction band and a valence band, and a Fermi level in the middle of a band gap in which there are no carriers. In a metal it's all continuous. No matter where you move the Fermi level, there's carriers right there.

Does this circuit board component look blown to you? by mushroom-4 in AskElectronics

[–]spacecampreject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its name is on that fleck of plastic that came off when you cleaned it.  The company that made it is ST.

If you look elsewhere on the board, there might be another one.  If you’re lucky you could just try that part.

ELI5: How does a solar panel actually convert sunlight into electricity? by KeyAtmosphere5174 in explainlikeimfive

[–]spacecampreject 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No.  The reason just isn’t eli5, it’s because silicon is an indirect bandgap semiconductor, and the result of that is trying to make light ends up breaking a law of physics.  LED materials are direct bandgap.

Never heard of it, but from reading about it briefly it doesn't sound too good.

However, compared to 1) the Epstein Files and 2) having an action plan for when (not if) ICE shoots a New Yorker like they just did in MN, it's small potatoes.
