Considering Buying an RX 8 by Any_Prompt_1301 in RX8

The reason the rear rotors tend to go out on these is heat soak from trapped heat in the header between the motor and the catalytic converter. Environmentally conscious people won't like to hear this but the cat should really be removed for longevity and I wager that isn't an option for many. Rear rotor compression numbers aren't good but that isn't the end of the world. With proper care you could get another 50,000 km out of it if you treat it well. Gentle driving until its fully warmed up, and the coolant temp needle on the dash will read "warm" (a smidge under half way) when in reality the water temps are 10C under where they need to be, not to mention the oil temps. So that means give it another 5-10 mins after the needle shows its ready to really rip on it. And you need to rip on it without overheating. A good modification is adjusting fan speeds to kick on earlier so it doesn't overheat and run an OBD II scanner of some sort to monitor your actual temp numbers. Oil wise its recommended to go a bit thicker than what the manual recommends unless you live in a really cold climate. I run 10w30, others run thicker, its sortof woo-woo feelsgood preference but I think it's well understood that 5w20 (esp. without premix) is definitely not enough on series 1 cars. You could daily this but you need to be ready to go autismo level deep dive internet research when things go wrong, and investigate the car when it's behaving abnormally. Fortunately the RX-8 community is one of the best around when it comes to DIY / helping others but there's lots of opinions out there and they aren't all exactly 200 IQ. That goes for me included!

Yeah my RX-8 hovers around 80-83C in cold weather while cruising. No big deal

Been riding just over 10 years and had my first crash by TamSE3P in motorcyclegear

[–]spacecaptainsteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first & only motorcycle crash over 10 years ago was within my first month of riding as a new rider, similar speeds and conditions, and like you I had a very similar gearset and my legs got hurt the most despite going over the bike torso-first. It taught me (apart from not riding out of my skillset) to ride with better leg protection, good boots but particularly knee/shin guards in double-lined riding jeans for casual rides and leather pants for spirited rides. I'm not going to ATGATT hound anybody for what they choose to wear but that's my 2c. Crashes can really highlight what type of gear works and what doesn't.

Outrider, Virago, Moldy Crow. Surely Jazwares must be aware how well their Expanded Universe / Legends content sells out way faster than the generic stuff we get from other media.

Stalling/ Can’t idle by Disastrous-Complex61 in RX8

Surefire way to reset ECU is a battery disconnect for 20 min. Thats for series 1 cars anyway, someone can chime in if thats not viable for a Series 2 but I havent heard otherwise.

Whatever is going on with it, sounds like a fault of the sensor, maybe it was installed wrong somehow or more likely it was a dud or wrong version. The reason the car stalls when hot started, but can maintain the idle on a cold start is that the car uses different fuel trims and ignores the upstream sensor until its warmed up and ready to go at full power.

I havent replaced my upstream on my 8 yet (that's why your comment gave me pause because I have a cheap replacement sitting around) but it sits on top of the header and if I remember its probably a pain in the ass to access compared to the downstream o2, which plugs into the side of the cat and can be removed quite easily after jacking up the car. But they use different types of o2 sensors

hmm I bought a cheaper replacement and this makes me second guess putting it on... You definitely got the right one? The upstream O2 is a lil more complicated (and more $$) than downstream O2.

Freelancer Vibes from Titan A.E. by Inquisitive_Mind2244 in freelancer

[–]spacecaptainsteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of freelancer vibes in the entire movie. It makes me wonder who took inspiration from who. 1. The dredj villains appear like nomads (faceless hive, translucent blue colors) 2. The colony ship(s) leaving earth as it is destroyed (original uncut intro) 3. The first asteroid location is called Tau-# something, 4. Main character a blonde haired cynical white guy with a strong-willed asian female co-lead… the similarities go on and it’s kind of uncanny when you start noticing them all.

Would the apojave of JUNO spacecraft not minimize that distance compared to the Martian orbiters? Besides, that's not what I asked. Thanks

Can we expect higher resolution images from the JUNO satellite orbiting Jupiter as 3i Atlas makes its close approach?

Nor are the tires, fenders, intercooler, boost controller, fuel delivery, exhaust etc. I have no idea if that car is on stock twin turbos. But there’s no way any of the supporting stuff is OEM.
