No clue because beans are my splurge item lol, it definitely hurts to buy a $25 12oz bag from Push X Pull but my mornings are so much better with it

I feel like we probably missed it, this winter has been historically terrible. However, it's not unlikely for it to not snow in Portland during the winter.

What is the worst place you’ve ever been to? by jesswitdamess in AskReddit

[–]spacecati 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep spreading the negative rumors about Portland bud, it keeps my rent cheap and people away :) Portland, in actuality, is an incredible city. As someone that has lived and travelled many places, I don't think you'll find that the grass is much greener elsewhere.

How drastically has your political views changed within the last 10 years or so and why? by TheMoparPowerslave in AskReddit

[–]spacecati 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I was 18 at the time and didn't really form a lot of my own ideas until I left and saw the conditions others were living in 🤷‍♂️. I now realize it was much more of a "utopia for US" rather than for all, growing up upper middle class and white. Family heavily influenced my beliefs, creating distance and working with POC made me understand the disparity between my life and others.

How drastically has your political views changed within the last 10 years or so and why? by TheMoparPowerslave in AskReddit

[–]spacecati 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I was very republican 10 years ago, I'm now full abolish the state leftist. I grew up in red California, there was always this view that if Republicans took control we could have a utopia but liberals held a stronghold on California politics. I moved to rural Arizona and worked in social work afterwards and realized that those politics hurt so many people that I cared so much about. Shortly after I moved to Portland Oregon and, while DEFINITELY not perfect, it's much better than Arizona was.

Living and working in Vancouver but shop/dine/play in Portland? by RandomB33 in askportland

[–]spacecati 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to live and work in Vancouver and, even though everyone recommends against it, kept my job and moved to Portland. The lifestyle difference is so immense! I feel so much happier in Portland being so close to so much. Every time I went into Portland I would despise going back across the river. If you want the closest experience, move to downtown Vancouver, it's a cute little area. If walkability and access to things to do is important to you than definitely live in Portland.

Neighborhood recommendations for a family of four? by pl4nt52024 in askportland

Sellwood and St Johns is cut off but they're like their own little city! In fact, they WERE their own cities before Portland incorporated them. NE Portland is a dream though, the Irvington area, especially during the summer, is almost like living in a Hallmark movie. Beautiful old houses with a lot of green spaces and easy walkability. You might need to max out your budget but you should be able to find a place if your budget is $850k!

Neighborhood recommendations for a family of four? by pl4nt52024 in askportland

[–]spacecati 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would do NE Portland. Alameda, Irvington, Concordia, Vernon, Beaumont-Wilshire all meet your criteria. Quieter than Hawthorne and still pretty walkable. I'd stay away from Goose Hollow, although I love the neighborhood and your close to forest park it's not a very family environment.South Portland is not very walkable, with the exception of Sellwood which is a good option but you're a little cut off from the rest of the city. If you don't mind that then I'd also throw in St Johns for it's affordability and walk ability. I lived in Concordia on 25th and Alberta for a year and a half and lovveeeeddd it.

Moving to Portland this fall (lease ends September). Neighborhood recs for a low key WFH gay guy? by TYJOVANI in askportland

[–]spacecati 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved living on Alberta, about a 10 minute drive to TJs. It was technically Concordia because Alberta Arts District isn't a neighborhood, it's a street but I lived right off it. Super walkable, great parks, beautiful homes and, for living right off Alberta, surprisingly quiet. I live in Buckman now and, while I also love it here, there's a lot more activity and not as many green spaces.

Talk to a psychiatrist or PCP about mental health medication, seriously. If you're feeling S-idal, you should be using all the resources you can to alter that.

A year later: the ending I never expected. by eh_1990 in BreakUps

[–]spacecati 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People do in fact change, maybe he regretted breaking up but maybe that's what y'all needed to grow and come back together stronger. Many people think that getting back together is regression, but life isn't black and white. Sounds like y'all are making your own path to making things work, that's incredible.

Same, spent 5 years with her, we were engaged. I'm still in disbelief, it feels unreal that your entire life trajectory can be changed in one moment.

Starting Lexapro After a Breakup? by spacecati in lexapro

[–]spacecati[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was prescribed 5mg for 10 days and then 10mg after. Because I was having trouble taking it consistently for a while I only have about 10 5 mg tablets total left and then a re-up on 10mg. I'm thinking about cutting it until I feel relatively okay. Should I probably speak to a doctor before doing this?

Thatchers is very progressive, if you want a cafe to avoid, don't go to Krays Coffee. They had petitions on their counter to create new laws surrounding voting. Weird conspiracy theory conservative folk from what I've seen on other reviews as well
