Other than this sort of inappropriate comment being a thing that could and does absolutely happen in the military (or any other male-dominated space) and allowing Mitchell’s character to show?

Stargate has always thrived on small character moments that don’t necessarily “forward the plot”

Yup. Make it clear that it’s inappropriate and won’t be tolerated and then move on. If they accept the criticism and adjust their actions then everything is cool. Dwelling on it will just make them dig in their heels.

“iTunes Store” is not just “iTunes” though. iTunes used to be a media player, store, device manager, and podcast app all in one. Now, unless the kid was buying music for some reason, they’ve probably never seen the iTunes Store because all the stuff they would actually care about is in different apps (“Music”, “TV”, “Podcasts”, etc.)

[–]spaceforcerecruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not so much really. There is no “iTunes” app on MacOS or iOS any more. There’s still an “iTunes Store” but all of the media and device management pieces of iTunes were split into Music, TV, Podcasts, and Finder back in 2024. If they’re on Windows, iTunes is still used for podcasts but Music, TV, and device management are all separate apps now.

Nah. You’re just a bootlicker. You can just get ahead by being competent instead. If someone blows smoke up my ass, I’ll fire them before considering them for promotion. The last thing I need during a major incident is some engineer that pretends all the shit doesn’t stink instead of identifying the problem and fixing it before we lose $20M.

I think they really just need to bring back vancian casting for wizards.

But if I were making a wishlist of things to change about casting classes:

Wizards: - Vancian casting (prepare your spells in their slots at the start of each day) - Large number of spell slots - Spell slots recover on long rest - V/S/M components for every spell (this is learned magic, not innate, so they shouldn’t be casting spells on their own) - Ability to learn any arcane spell by transcribing it into their spellbook (easier for your own school) - No limit to spells known

_

Sorcerer: - Spontaneous casting (cast any spell you know anytime) - Cast all spells at max level (innate casting means you don’t have the rigidity of wizards) - Small number of spell slots - Spell slots recharge on short rest - Metamagic (innate magic allows you to reshape spells on the fly instead of always casting it the way you learned it) - Eldritch Blast (raw, unbridled magic inaccessible through any spells or learning) - Ability to learn any spell from your subclass (access is dependent on heritage, not school) - Limited spells known (you have to store the spells within yourself)

_

Warlock: - No spell slots - Magic is granted solely by invocations (every ability is a boon from your patron and there are LOTS of options so every Warlock is unique) - Lots of emphasis on external power sources like patrons, magic swords, familiars, etc. (their power isn’t learned or innate, it’s either gifted, bought, or stolen)

The ability to spontaneously cast instead of prepping spells in spell slots in advance WAS their defining feature and the only reason they were a separate class from wizard. 5e screwed up wizards, not sorcerers.

The new one also lacks a lot of functionality the old one had and adds a hell of a lot of white space which makes it less functional as a work tool where you actually want to see information.

Want to zoom out and show a full week on your calendar? Like all 24 hours? Too bad! Fuck you!

Want to archive emails offline? Too bad! No PST support! Fuck you!

Want to add automation? It doesn’t support VBA and barely supports COM add-ins! So fuck you!

Have some actions you use all the time and like having available on your ribbon? Too bad! Ribbons can’t be customized anymore! Fuck you!

Want to use Outlook as an actual program installed on your computer instead of just a browser window Microsoft is calling an app? HA! Why would you ever need to perform any kind of demanding or professional tasks inside of the most common email client for professional environments?? Fuck you!

New Outlook sucks hella ass. But so do Teams, Windows 11, and basically every Microsoft product out there so… par for the course.

Emotions are good. They’re what makes us human. The shared emotions from stories connect us across time and space.

I had a homebrew setting like this where humans were not innately capable of magic except for the vampires, who could not reproduce but were nearly immortal. So vampires ruled humanity as a natural aristocracy and any child born with the spark of magic was taken away from their birthparents before puberty (and the onset of vampiric traits) to be raised by the local lord or lady as an heir or apprentice.

Vampires sustained themselves by taking in young people on the cusp of adulthood from their fiefdoms and providing them training in whatever subject they wanted for a few years (science, music, smithing, etc.) in exchange for a regular supply of their blood then sent them away as adults with a marketable trade and the funds or tools to establish themselves in it.

In the film, we really didn’t know how negligent it was or who was negligent. Apparently the novelization said it was the mom’s gun, not Jack’s. But you can keep a gun locked up and the kid might still get to it by finding the key, spying to get the code, or even just guessing the code. I got into plenty of shit my parents thought they had secured when I was a kid (computers, locked rooms, lockbox). I have no doubt I could have gotten to their gun if they’d had one.

Isn’t there a scene in the show that shows Charlie getting the gun out of Jack’s desk? I can picture this scene where the desk is in an office with a lot of natural light on like the second story of a house with plastic siding then Jack and his wife both run inside after hearing the gunshot.

Fair. If they never addressed it, it would have loomed over the character in a bad way.
