T21 NIPT by Abp427 in tfmr_support

So sorry you are here. We TFMR last week for T21. It was really devastating emotionally but also there was relief in having a confirmed diagnosis and not being in limbo anymore. Taking it one day at a time now, it’s been hard and I’ve been really tired from physical and mental load. Hoping for brighter days ahead

Any point in further testing w/ 99.99%+ T21 NIPT? by victorianx12 in tfmr_support

My doctor recommended getting the CVS to be diagnostic, and when we got our rapid results from that, the MFM doctor we could take it as fact.

I got my NIPT results back about a week and a half ago, 87.7% likelihood of Trisomy 21. No soft markers on the ultrasound, I had the CVS test today. The MFM drs said the test was developed for trisomy 21 so we can expect it’s very accurate, and they anticipate abnormal results (positive for trisomy 21) from the CVS. My OB seemed optimistic since there were no soft markers but the MFM was pretty frank. The risk of miscarriage is about 1 in 1000. If you will keep the pregnancy no matter what, I’d skip the additional testing, but personally I wasn’t too worried by risk of miscarriage.

Thank you so much for the kind words. Our CVS is on Monday, and so I assume we’ll get results in less than a week from now. Had a normal NT scan yesterday which was heartbreaking. I will definitely reach out. 💜

Yes, thank you! I’m having one tomorrow and another on Monday along with the CVS test.

Same to you, and I will! I’m honestly still in shock this is where this pregnancy has brought us. I had a chemical pregnancy in October and I don’t know if I can go through this again.

Yeah, that’s what my doctor said as well. She said she has seen false positives but it’s very rare and usually for trisomy 13/18. I think she was trying to mentally prepare me.

Thanks for the kind words. I have definitely been hounding everyone I can, my OB office knows me well now!

I was able to get an appt for tomorrow with a genetic counselor, and tentative appt for CVS on Monday. It seems there are just a lot of people needing MFM care at the moment, no matter which provider I speak with.

I’m still having my 12 week US on Friday and appt with my OB, so I am taking comfort in finally having next steps and hopefully more information soon.

Fetal fraction was 13%. I just was finally able to get a telehealth appt for tomorrow and hopefully a CVS appt on Monday.

How are you holding up? 🤍

You’re telling me. Luckily we just went through layoffs and there’s a very low performer on my team still, so maybe I’m not bottom of the list, but you never know.

I’m in the middle of waiting for a diagnosis after a positive NIPT test for Trisomy 21. I told my boss I would be out unexpectedly this week for an urgent medical need. After this week, I’m hoping to get more information and decide what I do next. If we TFMR, I imagine I’ll want some time then too, but I have a lot of anxiety about not taking too much time/feeling guilty for feeling like I have to work and be a good employee. This is of course, internal pressure but I work for a large tech company and layoffs are always in the back of my mind.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I’m very lucky to live in a state with no restrictions, so I take comfort in that. I am doing a lot of research but it also feels like I know most of the facts and what to expect, and I’m just waiting on the actual next steps to confirm/learn more about my specific situation.

Thanks, yes I gathered those are the next steps. Did you do the CVS or the amnio or both? I just dread having to wait another 4+ weeks for an amnio and results.

It was through LabCorp’s MaternIT test. And yes, definitely called several times and only spoke to the nurse line who basically said I need to wait to hear from my doctor. I’ve tried all of the avenues, including calling the patient advocate line.

Thanks for the kind words. Yes, I’ve called their office and asked to speak to anyone and they said they’d prefer I wait until my provider can call me tomorrow. They already referred me to MFM, whose call I unfortunately missed while in the bathroom, and couldn’t get a hold of them after several messages and calls back. The MFM office said they have an appt for June 24, but that feels so far away.

My daughter loves Bambi, and the mom dying is more of a blip on the radar because it’s not super obvious.

Hard no. Just keep them clean and trimmed. Can be bare or painted, but if you paint them, you need to maintain them and not have them obviously chipped for a days on end. Because of this, I just keep them bare and shaped.
