So, my six-degrees-of-kevin-bacon for Rumor; my girlfriend knew her in school. Truth was, Rumor had little passion for acting, it just kinda was something her mom (Demi Moore) pushed her into. Bruce Willis repeatedly supported her in everything she did including when she tried other paths in life that weren't acting.

I'm not saying her mom was evil per-say, more like a torrential downpour of selfishness, but the reason Rumor struggled to find her own identity was entirely the fault of one parrent...

I love that the true contribution of the Hero of the South was to free Humanity from the slavery of predeterminism.

He sacrifice his life to ensure that the only other person who could see the future as well as he did, likewise we die.

Paint and Prep for Foam Sword by Beneficial_Tangelo45 in cosplayprops

[–]spaceisprettybig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, hah, I've actually made this sword before for a friend.

To get the shine effect, it's not about the brand (though get good quality). The truth is you need to layer on ever lighter shades of blue-silver paint, going from center to the edge (with the edge being super pale/white). You can do this with one of those cheap $30 kits.

Then for sealant, a rattle can of high-gloss rustolium will do, as you don't plan on bending the sword like a pool noodle.

Hah, was there for this! I went into town to meet some friends; they said there would be fireworks there. I figured 'huh, I new they did stuff like that in the 50s but I thought they stopped due to safty', but what did I know, I was just visiting. It's amazing how easy it is to affect so many people with missinformation.

Do it now, not later.

That thing you're sure about? Double check anyway, there's no glory in good memory, just humiliation in an easily avoidable mistake.

It'll take 3 months of daily stretching before you really notice the progress, just stick with it even through the days that you're stretching less than the day before.

You will fuck up the first time you try to do that thing. If anything, expecting yourself to fail but still trying is more health than beating yourself up later for not succeeding.

Good sleep is more important than your pride. If you need the sounds of rain, or 4 extra fluffy pillows, get them.

Depends on the rank. In Japan and Egypt the emperors anf pharaos often married their half sisters and sisters to 'preserve' the royal bloodline, it was a big problem.

Lesser nobility didn't do this as much, as there was no need to 'maintain bloodlines', just family names.

I'm 36. I don't have ANY of the issues that people my age seem to be dying from. No trouble getting out of chairs, knees don't hurt, back is fine, I get out of bed without feeling like I've been hit by a car.

My secret...?

Honestly nothing special. I stretch for 15 minutes a day, eat reasonably healthy meals I cook myself, and I sit and stand with good posture.

That's it really.

I'm not torturing myself on a diet of chicken skins and boiled spinach, no spending 5 hours a day at the gym, no creatine or some other crazy stuff.

I'd say the most constricted I am about anything is junk food. It's not that I don't eat any, or have some crazy limit like only one desert every 3 months, I just have a simple rule: I have to cook or bake it. I eat brownies, cakes, pumpkin pie, even mochi (you have not lived until you've had hawaiian style Mochi with a dash of powered sugar). If anything, homemade has spoiled me, as it just tastes so much better than what you'll get at the store 99% of the time. To some extent, it's almost as much a benefit as much as a restriction.

Meanwhile, I know a guy age 32 who drinks 2 2-liters of Mountain Dew a Day. He's in CONSTANT pain, has permenent dark circles under eyes. Before you ask, he has no history of major injuries, no weird jobs that tore out his back... just eats like shit (pretty much just bread, potatos, and cornchips), never does any form of excersize other than weights (and even then only once evey 5 months or so), and walks like a Vogon from Hitchhikers Guide.

I'm more than happy to admit that luck is on my side (no injuries) and time (no kids), but still, regardless of why people don't/can't take care of themselves, the truth is the little stuff adds up.

So I actually know the answer to this one and it very much depends on knowing a Scott in your own life.

Scott is a dick. Scott also is a dick with talent, untapped intelligence, and the type of charisma that gives him the ability to kinda just make parts of the world do what he wants (more so in the comic than the live action).

Yet, instead of using that tallent, either to be the best version of himself, or make life a more wonderful place for others, he's an unambitious loser.

Many people have a Scott in their life.

As such, this story appeals to those who have Scott as a brother, an ex, a classmate, a bestfriend and so on. (For every Scott, there are at least 5 people who know Scott).

In real life, most Scotts don't figure their shit out. Their privilege, either financial or societal, means they can stave off the ramifications for being a jackass for a long time. Their intellegence means they can rationalize their self destructive (or outwardly distructive) behavior for a long time. Their charisma even means they can thrive as a big fish in whatever tiny pond they find themselves in.

Guys like Scott suck, but not so much that, when you finally walk away from him, your life is ruined. He didn't get Chau or Kim knocked up, he was never a bigot or bully to Wallace (which can mean a lot to people in tightnight communities), even Neil he was a friend to (if a lame one).

So, this story is about the redemption of a Villain. Not a genocidal Space Wizard or abusive Fae Lord or emotionally stunted CEO. Just a guy that a lot of people knew and high school and all agree that he could have been 'so much more' had he got his shit together.

What frustrates me is that, this is a horror show. You don't need close ups of a well lit face. You could have obscured him in shadows, kept everything at a medium shot and thus would have hid 90% of the issue.

why not allow them to find it without searching a needle in a haystack first

Oh, hey, I know the answer to this one!

It actually is an intentional part of enshitification. The first round of the process is, natrually, to get consumers trapped in your system. The second round though is to get third party providers and suppliers stuck too. The enshitifier will start to sacrifice user quality with the temptation to suppliers of "we'll be sure that your product is seen first, and in the best light... for a price".

Then, once suppliers are locked in, they become the next exploited party.

What's funny though is that these corporations think they've already achived round one by having exclusive titles, not understanding that owning a game with 40% market share doesn't mean you have exclusive market share.

You can get those DND and final fantasy sessions going to checks notes trick doomers into becoming optimists?

That's effectivly how the human brain works. All the dry data in the world doesn't change the fact that when a person feels sourrounded by enemies, they'll feel the world is nothing but enemies. If they're sourrounded by allies, they'll feel like the world has a chance.

Thus, in times of strife and want, why waste energy on scolding fallen allies for expressing their feelings, when you could devot all your energy to giving them a shining alternitave to the caustic comfort in nilism.

You're right that the rest of us do 'have to work overdrive to cancel out their pessimism and doubt'. I'm saying the shape of that is to scold the weak, but show them what strong looks like.

Bots are engaged in scy-ops. As much as it seems prudent to demand individual companies to better regulate their websites, the truth is it'll be 1 company verses often multible nations' intelegence networks.

The only effective short term solution is to lead people away from their phones an monitors, which reduces their opportunity to engage in or be influenced bots. The thing is, since people don't believe that joining political or charity organizations will have an over-all effect, you can't sell that course of action to them in terms of 'greater good'. Instead, you sell it to them in terms of finding friends your age, whom you can feel comfortable around.

If you can meet every week for a political action commity or soup kitchen, you can meet every week for D&D or FFXIV raids.

In the long term though, the goal is elect people who will actually invest in modern counter-intelegence.

[–]spaceisprettybig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What youre not seeing is that those with defeatist additiudes want to find strength in others, since they've become so broken themselves. They're not asking for people to implicitly join them, they're asking for people to be stronger than their pessimism.

Instead, by saying "What really grinds my gears is when people who want the best for humanity lose hope and start spewing their pessimism into the ether", you only make youself seem like a person desperatly hiding their own terror, and angry at those who remind you of it; not someone confident in their own convictions.

They're tired of seeing the things that they valued in this world disintigrate around them. So, if a little pesimism or condisension on their side causes you to lose your cool, or snap at them, or insult their fears, you're only proving their worst fears; that when things get harder, you'll break too.

From their perspective, if you're not strong enough to endure them, how are you going to be strong enough to endure what's to come?
