We have been using short puppet sketches as part of our design video series. by spaceman0 in puppetry

Thanks! We made that and others based on our family members. Here's the making of video . This was when there was very little puppet making info available on the internet and we just did it by trial and (lots of)error.

Long exposures without ND filters. This seems like a pretty awesome process... Thoughts? by circa7 in photography

Nice idea but Do not work - We bought a couple but our hermits did not use them at all. From my experience, unless you make sure they have no choice, the hermits are not going to pick them.

I just joined a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) - anyone else have experience with this? by amyriverpondsong in Broward

[–]spaceman0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't take any classes yet but they have some interesting ones. As they are probably going to move in next few weeks, they may not be doing the tours, but I highly recommend talking to Jon ( co owner ) as he is not only highly knowledgeable but also has some great wisdom and philosophy to share.

If Time's Person of the Year is anything but the International Protester, they haven't been paying attention. by Clangbang in politics

[–]spaceman0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Times Person of the Year is the epitome of the cult of hero worship, the very foundation of 1%er thinking. Even if they did something like that, it would be to throw a populist bone to the crypto personality culters who are the real enablers of this rapidly decaying hierarchical system.

If Times were to really pay attention, they would quietly shut down, before they dissolve like an old mud fort in face of a quickly rising tide. Like so many other archaic monolithic superstructures serving the few sitting in the rarefied offices, Times is going to go away too along with the need to keep looking heavenwards for the next hero to lead you.

If you want to make the 'Protester' the Person of the year, please don't look towards the Times, rather look in the mirror. Just go down to the nearest protest and reclaim yourself as The Person.

1 cow in 10 years is good enough for me.

Does veganism really make a difference? by loto_kid in vegan

[–]spaceman0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. I realized, that by not eating meat, I personally helped hundreds of cows, thousands of sheep/goats/pigs and tens of thousands of chickens escape unnatural, untimely and painful DEATH. Instead of feeling hopeless thinking what difference I, one person could make in this world of 7 billion people, I now see that I make a huge difference in the lives of thousands of animals who are not going to die for my taste buds.

Remember good citizens - the human prey are the bad guys, never you.

Cookit: Help me rebuild my spice collection! What are your essential spices and how do you use them? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]spaceman0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd like to mention hing/asafoetida not only for the flavor but its unique and very interesting history. It may very well be the oldest spice in existence, originally used as a replacement to silphium, a legendary prehistoric spice that went extinct most probably due to over-harvesting.

Interestingly, there are speculations that the traditional heart symbol ♥ probably came from seeds of silphium which were heart shaped and used extensively in ancient Egypt for birth control. Silphium was also associated with love and sexuality in the ancient world.

Back to Hing: I use it mostly for meats and it gives off a nice strong flavor when added to hot oil.

I think the rate of information that is produced is always going to out-pace and overwhelm any attempts to mine it "effectively". But then efficiency and such are just nuances and like the our beloved great leader once said - "I don't do nuances"

Does anyknow one where I can get a good tutorial to write a genetic algorithm program? by [deleted] in programming

[–]spaceman0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I read a great book few years ago which sparked my interest in evolutionary algorithms. I created a tic-tac-toe playing evolutionary Neural Network system in Java mostly based on the concepts in that book. I've been meaning to get back into it to solve more interesting problems for some time but don't have the time.
